Pokemom: 23K Gold plated Trading Cards

I hope this is in the right section.


My little 6yr old cousin came over today, with one of those 23 Karat Gold-plated Pokemon Trading Cards inside the Pokeball. Well, apparently he got it from my other 7yr old cousin, who wasn't supposed to give it away because it's "a collectors item and is worth lots of money".

Now, I Googled it, and looked it up anyway I could find to prove and/or disprove this statement, and found people selling them from $5 USD each up to $100 USD for just one. I want to know, are these things really worth all that much?

I personally don't think so, but anyone would like to tell if they are/aren't i would be glad to know.

If you don't know what I'm talking about:


The six are: Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Polywhirl, Pikachu, Charizard, and Togepi

I had all 6, I don't think they should be worth much. Maybe they are, but they shouldn't be. I thought it was a metal pokemon card painted to look good. I even kept the Pokeballs for each.

It says right on the Certificate of Authenticity Card says 23 Karat Gold.
I'm assuming they have all 6, seeing as everytime I look at a picture of one he yells "------- gots that one!!!"

I had the Pikachu one and my brothers each had Jigglypuff and Charizard.

Those things were awesome.

I have all of them... I believe... Mewtwo is hiding somewhere...

But yeah, those things sell on ebay for 6 bucks

Pretty sure it's worthless. I still have one of these somewhere and I believe they came from Burger King. They may very well be gold plated, but remember gold can be pounded really freaking thin, so the plating is probably on the order of micrometers and doesn't really amount to much material.

They might be worth something in 40+ years, but today, No they are not.

And yes, they did come from Burger King. I used to have one, I don't know what happened to it.

Did you read my second post?
It says right on the Certificate of Authenticity.
The plates are in a little plastic case, and the only way to get one open is to take a hammer to it. (At least that's one way.) I remember I tried it, way back when.

well they probably would be worth more since they are gold plated, but since just about every kid who liked Pokemon got these when Burger King was selling them way back then, they aren't that rare, thus worthless

But I have never seen these before, even when Pokemon was all the rage down here. Kids were dealing Pokemon cards in street alleyways like they own the place. The rarer the Pokemon you have, the higher your status was. One kid had so many rare cards, he was considered the group's master and lord at our Primary school and the only way to trade with his specially was to first proove your Pokemon wealth to his minions.

Lol, such memories please me until now. It was good in those days...

True, but with the way trading things work, I'm sure that one could (with a ton of time and searching) could find someone who would pay a noticeable sum.

I never really understood how the whole value system works, so whatever.
