The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
Here's my view on the two universes-
Marvel Comics has a much wider variety of superheroes, with varying and very specific abilities. The DC Universe has a smaller number of heroes who have more powers and more complexity. This is why Marvel is generally more popular- however, it is also why DC characters such as Superman and Batman are such huge cultural icons. Eh. I like the style and image of the DC heroes better than Marvel's. The Marvel Universe is alright, but I prefer the lore of the DC heroes more. Anyway, it's a good thing that Warner Bros. is starting to roll out more films. There have been plenty of Marvel-based films- some good, some terrible, and there is an untapped world of potentially good films to generate from the DC Universe. I'd like to see a modern Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Aquaman, even. If done right, those movies could be awesome. Anyway, which world of comics, superheroes and media do you prefer? |

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
For me its not really the company but the superhero themselves. For example I love Batman from DC utterly and completely and have been reading the comics since I was 8, but I also adore characters like Spiderman from Marvel. I don't really care who makes em as long as someone does.
But as for the format I like the most, I like the traditional comic book format. I do enjoy the movies, video games, and TV shows, but I feel the comic book is the best and original form. ![]() |

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
For me it seems that I like to read the arcs of the Marvel universe, but most of my favourite 'collected' books come from DC. In other words, from week to week I read almost exclusively Marvel books, but I also love and have collections from DC, mostly Batman stuff like Year One and The Long Halloween and such.
I think the reason I don't follow DC as closely is because they've rebooted the universe so many times its hard to tell what happened from when I read their comics as a kid compared what has happened in whatever particular reboot they are in. But when it comes down to the heroes, I like many from both sides, though more from Marvel, but that's likely because they actually do have more in general. |

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
I can say that I significantly prefer DC's universe. When I think of superheroes I think of vibrant, noble characters in completely out-of-this-world kind of adventures, and that's exactly DC's style in terms of art and story direction. I don't hate Marvel or anything, but to me their Universe is too dark and severe. I'm also not a big fan of how they've tried to turn so many of their characters into anti-heroes (they were terrible with this during the 90s). I still like the Avengers, Doctor Strange and that, though. While I haven't read it just yet, I'm very interested in reading Annihilation, and then Nova's ongoing series. I'll get around to those before the end of the year, as they sound awesome.
Now, if you talk about comics in general, I'm not quite as DC-loyal. The only things I regularly buy from DC are Geoff Johns' Green Lantern trades and Batman books, while I'm currently getting into Marvel's Cosmic characters along with buying a bunch of their fantasy comics. Overall I'm about middle ground product-wise, favoring DC a bit. |

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
wat
I have no preference between the two. I like both styles that the companies put out, and I like different heroes from each company. Batman and Ironman happen to be my two favorite heroes...

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
I think that The Watchmen may be the defining moment for DC; whether it and the Superman/Batman films will win over people instead of Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, and the rest.

Re: The DC Universe vs. The Marvel Universe
I have always been a Marvel fan up until recently; Marvel had the top spot and ran with it in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, that is, up until the "Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen/Return of Superman" storyline and Batman's "A Death In the Family" storyline. The two battled throughout the rest of the 90's, but I'd say DC for now has more interesting storylines going on, with Final Crisis, Trinity, the Sinestro Corps War, the Blackest Night, and Trials of Shazam!. What does Marvel have right now: a Skrull invasion? ...Yawn. It's been done. I like both equally, but DC's got the better storylines for now.
