Re: What book are you reading?

I finished Hemmingway's The Old Man and the Sea last night. I loved it, and I'm about to pick up Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. <3

Re: What book are you reading?

I just finally finished The Grapes of Wrath, and I think it might be one of my favorite novels. I really adore Steinbeck. I'll have to read Of Mice and Men too, Metropolis.

I've picked up Anna Karenina again, I have about a third to go.

Re: What book are you reading?

I'm re-reading the Trilogy of Five, more commonly known as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. I'm currently right at the end of the seond one, and I'm gonna start the third one again tonight. I love those books, full of British wit

After that, I have to read To Kill a Mockingbird for English. *sigh* Then I plan to read Brother in the Land by Robert Swindells.

What? I like to plan what I read...

Re: What book are you reading?

Yeah, but they already made us watch the film, and I thought it was really boring. The best part was when Scout was a Ham, and that's just because she had a silly costume. And it spoiled the ending. Watching the film that is, not Scout and the Ham.

Re: What book are you reading?

I'm reading The Aeneid by Virgil for Classical studies at school, and it's really interesting. The writing style was a little difficult for me to cling to when I first started, but once you settle into it, it's pretty good. :3 I'm also juggling The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Perfect Escape in my spare time. Sadly, I don't get much spare time nowadays. *pout*

Re: What book are you reading?

I'm currently reading Skin by Ted Dekker. I keep getting distracted by it, though. I haven't gotten to the part that grabs my interest yet, I'm only two chapters in. xD I really need to find some time to read it because I can tell it's going to be amazing.

I am currently reading In Cold Blood (Truman Capote), but once I get Gravity's Rainbow (Thomas Pynchon) in the mail, I'll be reading that.

I need to start reading Lord of the Flies for school, but I already watched the movies in 7th grade civics class. I'm reading the short story "The Mist" by Stephen King.

Re: What book are you reading?

I recently finished reading the entire O' Malley series by Dee Henderson, including the prequel to it. I really loved it. A great mix of romance, suspense, and Christianity. Things were very sad near the end of the series (one of the O' Malleys had cancer throughout most of time), and some were having a hard time coming to grips with God because of this. Anyways, I was really sad to see the series go. All good things must come to an end, I guess.

After the O' Malley series, I wanted to start in on Uncommon Heroes, another series by Dee Henderson. That was before my mom bought me almost the entire set of The Work and the Glory.

That's what I'm currently reading. The Work and the Glory is a nine volume set of beauty, historic fiction on the early years of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first volume, called Pillar of Light, is mostly about Joseph Smith finding and translating The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. No one believes Joseph about the vision he had where he saw God and Jesus standing above him, and people openly mock him and treat him and his wife Emma very badly. And this is happening mostly through the eyes of the fictional Steed family.

I'm currently reading The Work and the Glory: Like a Fire is Burning, which is the second volume. The Church of Jesus Christ is once again restored to the earth, missionaries go out and many are converted and baptized, and Satan hardens the hearts of those who will not hear, resulting in mobs chasing the Saints all over the place. At the same time, there are many miracles and wondrous things happening. A very wonderful book. I have a hard time putting it down!

Anyways, The Work and the Glory is designed for Latter-day Saints and non Latter-day Saints alike. Very entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. ^_^

"The Long Halloween", a 13-issue Batman comic series, one of the franchise's best.

Will try to find a real novel soon enough.

Re: What book are you reading?

My dad bought me 'A brief history of time' by Stephen Hawking yesterday. I'm already feeling the last pages .

Though, I get lost and get frustrated sometimes, I manage to understand at least two thirds of it >.<

Re: What book are you reading?

I liked To Kill a Mockingbird, both the novel and the film. So amazing.

I'm currently reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. Very good so far. Not sure what's next on the agenda, though.

Oh my GOD, Of Mice and Men is such a good book. The ending almost made me cry, and the reason I didn't was because I was at work when I finished it. :'(

Re: What book are you reading?

I have got to get around to that!

Well, finished Anna Karenina. Loved it, but did anyone else find the ending sort of weird and anticlimatic? Maybe it's because I feel like I only got a pretty rudimentry understanding of the novel over the first reading, and I missed out on the meaning. I don't know. Anyone who has read it, did you guys get that?

I've started William Thackery's Vanity Fair now, and I really adore it. It feels a bit like an Austen novel to me (although that might just be because I've read Austen too much)- same setting, same sort of focus. But much more nasty and much more humourous. I love it so far.

I've read that book! It's a great book, actually school introduced me to it, and we had to write an essay on it for our English coursework.
