Pen & Paper RPG's

Does anybody play them? I myself play them often and think that they are actually the best games of all!

Examples of RPG's:

Dungeons & Dragons- Most people start with this. It is quite ok, but there are too many rules and focuses too much on dungeon crawl and power leveling.

Shadowrun- Haven't played it, but supposed to be ok.

Classroom Deathmatch- An indie game, but amazing. About a japanese class being kidnapped and transported to a battlefield where they have to fight to the death. Macaber, but very interesting as you have real dilemma's and issues.

Primetime Adventures- An indie game that lets you design a tv show and play it. Awesome.

There are many great rpg's! Especially the indie ones are great. I love the fact that there is so much freedom in RPG's. As well, it is very social and you can basically can do so much fun stuff.

So share your thoughts on them, as well as games and experiences,

Sander K.

Ive considered playing Dungeons and Dragons, but none of my friends really care enough about the game, yet alone playing them with me....so I cant really play. I have read the rules on it, and it looks awesome, but its just too hard for one person to be the DM, a MP, and a PK at the same time.(Dungeon Master, Main Player, and Player Killer, for those unfamiliar with my lingo)

Ive thought about making my own pen and pad RPG game, but it would be like making a team sport without any players, so yeah. Aside from the fact that Im a major loner, I would play if I had some to play the game with.

Some friends of mine on another forum I visit are starting to play D&D, so I thought I would join in with them. Mind you that I've never played a pen and paper RPG before, and I'm starting off with an unusual character/class mixture (Dwarf Ranger). I honestly don't know how to play, but they told me it was self-explanatory as you played, and that they would help me and such. It should be fun, I guess.

Yes the most efficient way to learn anything is to experiance it first hand. (Though in some cases it is not very satisfying i.e. smoking, getting shot, etc.)

Anyway on topic, Ive thought about making a kind of pen and paper RPG, where you make Super Heroes, and protect and a city/ world that you (As a group or as one) create. The villain of the game is one whom you create as a group, and you select who will play the villain. The person who plays the villain has the power to send out his minions, or use his power to cause trouble throughout the city/world.

Also you can set up traps or troubles. You randomly place things like NPC's in distress, or Enemies trying to sabotage something around the board (You as in you and your group each get to make one or many, depending on who all is playing.)

It sounds alot like dungeons and dragons, only the villain is always/ can be a different character, and has less power then a DM. So as a group you create the world, and the Heroes that protect it.

Its one of the many ideas I have had, but I never actually had time to set up the rules, battle system, Health and Magic/Power, etc. I may begin on this idea when I have some free time in class, or if my teachers bore me too much.

It sounds kind of cliche, but the fun part would be that all you would need is your character sheet, and maybe a game board (Could be pencil drawn on large paper), so you could really play anywhere.

I don't really like pen&paper games but I do find D&D a good idea. I've never bothered looking into it.
