Philip Pullman
Are his novels any good? I'm asking because, the Golden Compass is coming out in theators, and wondering if I should spend my time reading the novel first. But, I don't want to waste it by reading a crappy book.
So, are his novels any good? And more importantly is the Golden Compass any good?

Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy(The Golden Compass, The Subtile Knife and The Amber Spyglass) are all amazing books. They are some of my personal favorites right up there with Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter and R.A. Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt. I was appalled when I heard they were making a movie. I don't think they'll be able to pull it off with out butchering the books.

I checked it out, its pretty cool. Its not bad, I'll be reading the rest once I finish the first.
Also, Controversial topics don't bother me, I actually enjoy reading such topics.
