Favorite Books

Wow Im surprised at the lack of a certain series in this thread.

Im going to assume that everyone on these boards likes fantasy (what with this being a zelda website and all), so you should all at one time in your lives read this series.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.

This series will kick your ass, take your name, and steal hours of your life as you read through it!

Its really, really amazing stuff...So far, four books have been written. The series starts off with A Game of Thrones, and I definitely recommend reading it!

Ludvig Holberg - Nicolai Klimii's Subterranean Journey 1741
A science fiction novel (the very first?) about a student who falls through the earth's crust to discover another solar system within our planet. Here he visits many different societies, and their descriptions function as critisism (very radical at the time) of the Western world.

Mary Shelley - Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus 1818
Science fiction classic. You should know what this is about.

Dalton Trumbo - Johnny Got His Gun 1939
Anti-war novel written on the background of World War I, telling the story of a soldier who lies in a hospital with no arms, legs, eyesight or hearing. Here he reflects over the war, its causes, and its results.

I'd like to add another book to my listy. The Thief Lord. I liked it, I finished it... sometime earlier this week...

Phantom of the Opera, I'm to tiered to list anything else.

I like Tolkien, Doyle, Poe, and Shakespeare. There is nothing quite like the classics.

There are others that do not come to my mind at this moment.

Blood and Chocolate, Sabriel is a close second.

I've read a lot in my life X-x sometimes I wonder if I live on the real world or in a book!

As far as series are concerned:

It's a 3-way tie between Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and the Belgariad.



It's been a long time since I've read G. R. R. Martin, but I was disappointed with the fourth book in his recent series (Fire and Ice?) and never did finish it. The stories didn't seem to be going anywhere at that point and he killed off characters I had grown attached to.

I used to be a big fan of Michael Crichton (read most of his novels) but his recent books have been too preachy. I think, maybe, I've just outgrown his style.

And, as for the Hitchhiker's series, I believe I read all the books that had been published up until I got out of high school (that may just be the first four), and that was my favorite series for a while.

Not anymore, though. Now's it's definitely the 3-way tie between the greatest fantasy series that have ever been.

Does someone beside me like Anne Rice xxDD?? Vampires sort of stories (Didn't like the Mayfair girls x_x)

The absolute best books I have ever read:

Bible - (personal reasons).

Dragonlance - The Legend of Huma. (I absolutely loved EVERY SENTENCE in this book. Nothing but action all the way through).

Dragonlance - Dragons of Autumn Twilight. (First Dragonlance book, and what an awesome first book it is too).

Tolkien - The Two Towers.

Tolkien - The Silmarillion. (Mostly b/c of the Blind_GuardiaN CD "Nightfall in Middle-Earth", which is the soundtrack for that book).

Frank Hubert - DUNE. (Mostly b/c of the 2 songs "Traveler in Time" from Blind_GuardiaN and "To Tame a Land" from Iron Maiden that both talk about this book).

STAR WARS - Splinter of the Mind's Eye. (First STAR WARS novel, and what an awesome first novel this is too. Nothing but action in every sentence all the way through).

STAR WARS - Han Solo trilogy. (Nothing but action all the way through, and you get to see how he grew up and how he became who he is).

Anne Rice - The Vampire Chronicles. (The first 3 books of it anyways).

Chris Claremont - X-MEN - Fatal Attractions, Dark Phoneix Saga, The Phoniex Saga, Days of Future Past, Inferno, The Pharlanx Covenant, X-tinction Agenda, and Mutant Massacre.

The Han Solo trilogy was great! Oh and March of the Swordmaster is pretty awesome too!

Jehanne: I'm pretty sure that a certain Mr. Brooks could give the Eddings duo a run for their money, if not flat-out beat them. Ever tried Shannara? Or Word and the Void?

Elf Swordmaster: Heir to the Empire was the first Star Wars novel, not Splinter of the Mind's Eye. And yes, the Han Solo trilogy is fun.

Favourite Books (mostly series/trilogies, not in any order):

Dragonriders of Pern, by Anne McCaffrey (but the latest ones are starting to feel a little pedestrian).
Shannara, by Terry Brooks (all the sets, I mean - but again, they're starting to feel repetitive).
Landover, by Terry Brooks.
The Word and the Void, by Terry Brooks (again).
Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card.
The Lord of the Rings, by Tolkien (how could I leave that out?).
Belgariad/Mallorean, by Mr. and Mrs. Eddings (but their latest books feel too repetitive...anyone else see a pattern?).
The original Dragonlance trilogy, by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman (newer ones may be worth reading, but catching up with all of them is more effort than it's worth).
Most Star Wars novels (especially the novelisation of Episode 3 - it's ten times better than the film).

I'm sure I'm missing some from the list, but that'll do for now.

-Oh yeah, Lord of the Rings
-Conspiracy related stuff

and some other books/journals I found interesting or enjoyable.

I don't get it. Why study EE if your interests are in AE?

Oh because i'm able to get AE books with ease as my father is pretty high up at NASA Ames RC and well respected at Langley. I could get EE books, but most of the ones I would be interested would have to do with programming and I get enough of that from Textbooks and classes.
