The Commonwealth Games

This year, the Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne, my city. It looks to be a good year for some more sporting and I'm looking forward to see people like Ian Thorpe back in action. For some reason, Melbourne have decided that the mascot for these games will be some kind of parrot thing, nicknamed "Karak".

I'll hopefully be going to see some events. :3

P.S To Americans: This is like an Olympic games for members of the British Commonwealth. You aren't invited because, as you should well know, you left the Commonwealth at some tea party in Boston. I'm pretty sure your Canadian friends are coming, though.

Re: The Commonwealth Games

You know, we're at risk of not having Thorpey swim. Damn him for being sick all the time!!! Hopefully, he will get better in time for the Commonwealth Games so that way we can all enjoy watching him swim.

Karak is supposed to be a South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. He is called 'Karak' after his distinctive birdcall. This native bird was chosen because he embodies the spirit of the Games. He is uniquely Australian and welcoming to all.

If you want more information about Karak go to http://www.melbourne2006.com.au/Karak+the+Mascot/

Re: The Commonwealth Games

Hopefully thorpey will swim. He is a great addition to our swimming team, and will stop at nothing to set a new record.

I'm not going to the commonwealth games, but I know a few people that are. It sounds like fun, but I wouldn't be all that enthusiastic of going.

Re: The Commonwealth Games

Whooo...its lawn bowls chance to shine.

Further information for those that didn't split amicable from the best damn empire there every was. Many countries that are republics still compete because they were still part of the empire when they used to be called the Empire games. We have all the usual olympic type events plus lawn bowls, squash, cricket, netball. Essential all the sports the U.S. doesn't exactly understand. And due to the fact that the U.S.A and all those former soviet countries don't compete, Australia dominates the sports we always get bronze in at the olympics.

*Goes to the lounge chair, pulls out a little green and gold flag with lawn bowls written on it.*
