Girly Entertainment

No, that is not the name of a new TV station (from what I know).

One thing I am sick and tired of is when people make fun of guys who are interested in things the world deems "girly". A guy can't read a book or see a movie that everyone says is girly without being made fun of. In fact, people would probably find them gay. It is so stupid!

I'll admit, I have read two books in the Claidi Journals book series. I started reading it back in 6th or 7th grade. But because some people made fun of me, I stopped reading them. Now that I've read those two books, I have found out that series is not girly. In fact, it is very fantasy-ish and very good. Go ahead and make fun of me, I don't care!

Sooooo..., Yea...... Discuss.

Sounds like the corrupted society has got to you, don't let that happen.
Well I can't really class anything as 'girly' entertainment. If its good, its good,
no matter what gender you are.

I agree. guys shouldn't be limited to things that aren't defined as bieng "girly". Girls watch action movies, so by all rights a guy should be allowed to watch a romance without being made fun of.

Re: Girly Entertainment

All of my books have romance.

Every person who has read them - including guys - has liked them.

I have never been made fun of. Romance is a powerful element. "Girly"? I hope not.

I'm grew up a tomboy. I box, play grid iron, watch violent anime/manga etc etc... so I don't see why a guy shouldn't enjoy things that are classified as feminin or girly.

Very true. I happen to like a few romance movies, and if they are classified as being girly, please shoot me.

"You're a girly man."

But seriouslly I like some romance stuff like movies, books, and other things. But I prefer to experience romance than to be entertained by it.

Re: Girly Entertainment

Lol Karasu Tengu, I watched a few episodes of it and found it pretty funny. I respect people who admit what they like and don't give a wet slap about what other people think of them. *salutes*

I like the movie Ten Things I Hate About You. Yeah, I said it. I also liked the movie Hitch, but that isn't very unusual. And if that makes me girly, as Numra said, please shoot me in the head.

Haha, I loved that movie Hitch, I like most of Will Smith's work. Heck when I was younger, I used to watch Powerpuff Girls for kicks. Sue me.

I watch

I watch and really rather enjoy the O.C. and that is the equivelent of a soap opera in my opinion. I have been called girly but I dunno, not my fault I have found something I enjoy and others havent so they have to to laugh to make themselves feel better...

Re: Girly Entertainment

Well, uh, im a girl, but I always felt bad about how girls seem to be able to do... 'guy things' when boys often get stepped all over if they wanna do some feminne type things. I would often do ... erm 'tomboy' stuff, but when a guy would want to do girl type activities, they just get made fun of.

Its stupid really, and romance isnt girly. How is romance girly? I mean there is a difference between cheesy romance, and real romance, but still.

Heh, My friends DAD watches that show, and if you knew him personally, (which i do) you would find it totally surprising by his personality. And that movie Hitch was good, i think its kinda a good date movie too, so i dont see that as girly.

Re: Girly Entertainment

Actually I don't think this is a case anymore these days. This is the age of 'the new man' (I do sociology at college) where men are beginning to groom themselves and wear pink (we know the pink t-shirt is a man's favorite and most fashionable colour shirt nowadays! in England anyway, perhaps other countries too) and now 1 in 5 men are gay. Straight and gay men are taking on this role more rapidly very recently.

Haha. Well, a guy wrote the screenplay for Hitch.

Most of the time, things that can be qualified as "girly" can quite simply be qualified as "garbage." And I don't mean to diss girly stuff (in that, that isn't my intention, believe me, you'd know if I were dissing girly stuff ), I just mean, the typical chick flick or book geared to tween to teen girls is of low quality. The same thing with anything aimed specifically at the same age group of boys.

Um, dear. I believe your statistics are wrong. I by no means want to make this a debate, but 20% is a very large number. I've seen census numbers put it at 3%, however. Unless you have some sort of source, but even still, color me skeptical.

Hmmm well Im not exactly sure If I've watched any and liked "romance" movies or whatnot.
But I do know something... That I do... and alot of you do.

Is play the Legend of Zelda. Ever since I've gone to LoZ forums... you will find yourself tons and tons of girls.

So you could say the LoZ is girly =P

Ugh. Too, too true. Any movie with Hilary Duff in it is a good example of that sort of thing.

It's a pity that, while girls can do stuff considered to be mostly for guys, and are even encouraged to do so, guys are horribly discouraged from doing things considered "feminine".
Though, just to let you guys know, some girls do find that sort of thing cute. (I actually said "Aaaw" while reading some of the posts in this thread. O_o')
