Favorite Children's Author?
Which children's author do you remember as being your favorite? For me it was Lemony Snicket. A Series of Unfortunate Events was very well written, had a very good plot line for a children's series, had a few very clever and funny parts to it, and the fact that he always tried to get the reader to not read his books always made me laugh.

Re: Favorite Children's Author?
Roald Dahl, for sure. I've read some of his books so many times, I can't even count that high. The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG, George's Marvelous Medicine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Fantastic Mr. Fox were all huge parts of my childhood.
I was also a really big fan of Robert Munsch, and his books accompanied by the art of Michael Martchenko are probably some of the most memorable from my childhood. Favourites include The Paper Bag Princess, Love You Forever, Thomas' Snowsuit, I Have to Go! and Purple Green and Yellow. And then when I was a little older I was a voracious fan of Brian Jacques Redwall series, as most who know my old username can probably guess. Obviously, The Bellmaker will always be my favourite of those. I was also a big Louis Sachar fan (The Wayside School books There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom and Holes in particular). But maybe most of all is Jerry Spinelli. Maniac Magee is one of my favourite books of all time, and he also wrote other great children/young adult books like Space Station Seventh Grade, Wringer, Crash and others. His autobiography is probably the one I've read the most though, Knots in My Yo-Yo String. There's other notable authors and books, but those are probably the big ones that wrote several stories and books that define my childhood and pre-teen years. |

There was also a woman who wrote picture books and did the picture all with clay but I can't remmber her name ...I'll ask my mom she'll know. And I've got to add Eric Carl as well as Chris Van Allsberg. All thier artistic stlyes really drew me into the books.EDIT: It was Barbara Ried! And add Denis Lee to that as well. Aligator Pie!

Re: Favorite Children's Author?
I still have some poems from that book memorized.
Massasauga rattlesnake eats brown bread, Massasauga rattlesnake falls down dead. If you catch a caterpillar feed it apple juice, But if you catch a rattlesnake turn him loose! Oh Jesus, how could I forget Shel Silverstein!? The Missing Piece, Lafcadio: The Lion Who Shot Back, Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, A Giraffe and a Half, THE GIVING TREE. Oh man, his poems and stories are incredible. And I really can't not mention Le Petit Prince (or The Little Prince for the English title) by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. It is one of my my mother's favourite books and I have fond memories of her reading it to us when we were little. My brother went one some housecleaning spree awhile ago and tried to give it away and we both nearly killed him. |

Re: Favorite Children's Author?
I don't have a "favorite," but Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series is pretty good.

Re: Favorite Children's Author?
Roald Dahl is a favourite, as well as Brian Jacques for his Redwall series. I a;sp love Garth Nix's Key to the Kingdom series (even though I'm actually an adult, I'm still waiting for the next one to come out!).

Forte, edit button
.Did anyone else ever read the puddle lane series? They were relatively short stories and had a story line connecting them, but they gradually increased in reading level. I never got to read the last few .
