Of course, I don't take gaming that seriously anymore. I used to be "hardcore" but I've fallen out of the mindset that splits gamers into separate "factions." If I must have a label, all I can say is that I'm probably more casual than I've ever been in the past. In fact, my favorite system right now is the DS, hands down. It's provided me with the most gameplay experiences that I actually care about, though I think the Wii is underrated in every other system's wake, and the X360 (which I own as well) is overrated in, well, every other system's wake.

Really, I was glad someone posted a philosophical thread, because the Wii is actually an interesting console to talk about. It's non-standard. It's going for something that the other consoles aren't, and is only failing because of this ridiculous uphill battle against third parties who are just now starting to show real promise in their efforts (even though, as a Wii owner, I've played quite a few gems from certain third parties).

    Sure thing, pal!

    Thanks for the friend request.

Y'know, I really don't get a lot of praise for, well, any of my posts. Ever. And that post you saw in the philosophical Wii thread? That's pretty much ground I've covered MANY times. And in my opinion? Posts like that aren't even that great! It's probably the lack of similar posts which makes it stand out.

In general, philosophy about gaming, I think, is underappreciated. People just want to post threads about games they bought, or games that are coming out, just to talk about how awesome a game is, how bad a game is, who's interesting in also buying said game, etc. But these are discussion boards. This place is for extension of the hobby, but not just for circle-jerking purposes among fans. It's an extension for people who are interested in not just talking about the games or systems themselves, but in talking about what makes the hobby fun and intriguing in the first place.

I don't get why that thread was closed? There wasn't too much flaming IMO.

And lol at that guy who called my post full of rhetoric and flaming! He also called me fanboy! That's like the first time in years that I've been called a fanboy!
It feels so great to pwn them whiners defending Nintendo. But about the fanboy thing: I quess I'm kind of a Nintendo fanboy or so, but only in the way that I, like, love Nintendo without any doubts. I'd put my soul in Iwata's hands, I know they're good. But I'm not irrational, I don't hate Sony or Microsoft either. In, fact I own a 360 and love its games, and in a few months I will own a PS2. PSP and PS3 will be in my posession within 3 years too.

Let me start a thread about my history with fanboyism, whinism(my newly invented word), and faith in the Big N.

To them, if the future is in casual gaming, so be it.
It's a shame that you see it this way, as Nintendo is not abandoning their old fans. They're making great games, lots of great games. The hardcore gamers that get left behind in the process didn't care about Nintendo anyway, they'd just like to call them kiddy without them owning their console's ass.
Since the thread's been locked, I thought I'd respond here.

You didn't seem to actually understand which side of the argument I was on - I was neutral and saying things as objectively as I could with still getting the point across.

Although Nintendo are still making quality games from all their best franchises, the difficulty of the games has changed. Hardcore gamers want that difficulty, and are feeling disappointed, while fan gamers get the games they like just as often as normal.

Basically, my complaint in that thread was that hardcore gamers complain too much.
