Maybe 30/70 now? Malstrom apparently has no idea what "puzzles" are if he thinks standard RPG equip upgrades qualify (I thought he wanted Zelda to imitate RPG conventions?) and clearly wasn't paying attention to the item upgrade trailer if he thinks shield upgrades could possibly have anything to do with "puzzles" (all they seem to do is give your shield more durability).

I'm on the fence about the upgrade system. On one hand, it DOES look as if there's some potential for upgrades to make combat more badass. On the other hand, enemies are falling without even putting up a fight, and every item already seems to be heavily integrated into puzzles (even the sword and sword beams of all things). Malstrom might be jumping the gun, but I definitely see the potential for messing this up.

The recent discussion about Skyward Sword's "grunt" enemies being "weak" is just hilarious, since basically every 2D Zelda enemy that's not some kind of boss (or a Darknut) is pathetically weak.

But at least they put up a
fight and didn't just stand there (except for LoZ1 octoroks, which had projectiles). I've seen multiple
SS "grunt enemies" (thanks for the term) die without even putting up a fight.

Moreover, I'm fully convinced that Malstrom's hostility towards Super Mario 3D Land is 100% evidence that he just hates 3D Mario since he once talked about how the problem with 3D Mario is that it doesn't use 2D Mario conventions but instead creates its own. Now that a 3D Mario that DOES use 2D Mario conventions has arrived, he seems to have discarded that mindset and instead resolved to nitpick even the most minor things. (Most of these things are "aesthetic" differences, which he claims don't matter for games like Zelda II but apparently matter for Super Mario 3D Land.)

I disagree. Malstrom wasn't just talking about "2D Mario conventions" in general, he was talking about
specific 2D Mario conventions like the "tactile" gameplay, the cohesion between levels (the levels STILL look like floating islands of irrelevance), etc that SMB3DS appears to lack.
As it stands, SM3DS looks like the worst of both worlds. It lacks certain important elements of 2D Mario and it lacks the visual and aural spectacle of the Galaxy games.
