I'm actually living in a college town, so although the area is rural, it has a lot more than a town this size should have when it comes to shopping and entertainment. Also, we're only 3 hours from DC and 4 hours from NYC, so we're not really that far from anything we're used to.

If the couch is uneven, maybe you should get a futon (like the ones that Japanese and Koreans use). They can be super comfy.

Everything's good. We moved to a rural area about a year ago and I've been not-working since then. My PhD stuff is on hold, and if I want to continue, I think I'm going to have to start over at a new university. My oldest is getting fairly good at reading now (he's 4 and a half), although I suppose that could be a problem if we have questionable materials around. And the baby is going to have his first birthday in a couple weeks.

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your job last year, but there's probably some comfort in being able to move back home.
