The Japanese, for example, pronounce their family name before their given name, which makes more sense in a place where pride, honor, and shame are attached to entire families and not confined to individuals.
For the record, Hungarians have it in that order too; I'm not sure if it's for the honor of families. It's just how we've always done it. :>
