    Yup! Sooooon..

Aw. What's the temperatures like in your area now?
We actually haven't had any snow yet, though it's been around freezing point for a while.

    Better, I believe (:
I'm in the sofa with Her Fluffiness at the moment. I was planning on a (lighter) work-out and a shower. The coming weekend, we're going to see the Hobbit movies with Vigdis. It's getting closer to the premiere^^

I hope you're well! I understand you've been having cold weather in the States lately? It's only around freezing or just above here for the time being.

I'm assuming they can also be rather practical at times^^
    Yes, her Fluffiness thrives :3

    Well done! Aw xD

I'm rather well! I have the evening shift today and my wife has a study day, so I'm currently at home with my wife and the kitten. I'll be trying to lure my wife out of bed and eat breakfast soon.

    Edit:
I had my first proper strength work-out again today. Feels good (:

Yeah there is a lot of hunting here as well. It's really common for everybody to know when hunting starts because all the damn deer run into the road. And it's like fuuuuu- So around hunting season people need to be extra careful because if the guns don't get to them, the cars will. xD

And yeah its not too bad. Buffalo is the second biggest city (I think) in New York after Buffalo, so its bound to have its sketchy areas. But that's good you don't have much shooting there ^^ I always lived in the suburbs, and I'm glad this city is rather quiet compared to Buffalo. Like way quieter. I was actually really scared when I moved here because I was worried it would be that way >.>

Most of my region is very pro-gun. I don't mind it as long as they know how to properly store the damn things, although I'm getting worried about it for other reasons. We're already labeled a high risk drug area from the state and I think we might be labeled a national high drug risk area as well. With drug crime on a steady increase, we are going to see a lot more shootings then we did in the past. We already got larcenies and what not. Shootings aren't common, but you are seeing more shooting stories then you did in the past. It's nowhere as bad as some of the major cities though. I'm used to Buffalo where there is a shooting like every week at least (although not necessarily murder), so its like "well at least it ain't that bad."

My friend who also lives in New York told me since he knows I hate Cuomo. And I hope you are feeling better even if its unrelated.

Nobody is quite to Texas tier xD But I've seen some people in like Pa. who are pretty ❤❤❤❤ing close and its like

God damn it looks like Cuomo is at 55 percent. And yeah. I don't mind all Republicans since the ones I talked to are usually very friendly and seem moderate - especially when you compare them to people from Texas and what not >.>The biggest issues people pretty much argue about over here is hydrofracturing and the fact NY is horrible for business. Mostly what to do about it for the second one.

New York is strangely a mix of conservative and democratic. New York City and lower part of the state is very blue, so everybody tends to think its a blue state. However, at least in the county I'm in, its red all over. Still while I think Cuomo is going to win, I REALLY hope he doesn't.

Hopefully other people agree with you. I think that's the scariest thing when it comes to elections - the wait. Waiting with baited breath that your voice got heard and you can dance being like:

    Spoiler:

I know I'm waiting to see if Cuomo gets kicked out of office. I don't think a single person in my newsroom voted for him. It's also incidentally the only person I voted for conservative.

Ironically I read more from other papers (mostly online publications) then I do from my own. I'm a bad employee. Also the Serious Discussion board here keeps me informed. It's where I lurk for my up to date controversial subjects >.>

Yeah. The things you learn. Seriously if you hang around a newsroom you learn some of the most ridiculous stuff. Some of its like "wtf." Like stuff we can't put in the paper because its not news. The crazy psychos the editors put up with. It gets unreal. xD

Yeah New York is the same way. Huge state. Big cities control everything. It's so frustrating.

Yeah. Well water was going bad, and I asked why since more than one home on the street went through this. So its not like what it normally is where it could be a failing in whatever it is that makes wells run. So my editor was like "find out what's going on." And the town person pretty much told me it wasn't mine or anybody business even though they were thinking about using village funds to connect these homes to the water district (it wasn't before). And I was like uh, it sort of is. First off its a monetary concern since public funds - you are literally looking into the most expensive option. Second off, if we don't know what the problem is, it can be a health concern especially since we are right by the lake and all. And he was like "it's bad for business, blah blah blah." And I'm thinking "NO ❤❤❤❤ ITS BAD FOR BUSINESS. EIGHT GOD DAMN WELLS HAVE GONE BAD ON THE SAME ❤❤❤❤ING STREET. THAT'S A GOD DAMN PUBLIC CONCERN."

My area hasn't really started caring about plastic or recycle bags. We're too busy fighting for our right for guns and hating the state government and New York City since it feels like NYC controls pretty much most of the state and everything is done in their interest. Not to mention districting issues.

Yeah. It's hard to get the real intricate details. Like sometimes I look at it and its like "wtf am I looking at. What is this ❤❤❤❤?" Then I spend 30 minutes on the phone getting it explained to me, so I can then explain it on a fifth grade level to everybody else.

Where I live, its so heavily Republican leaning, it hurts at times. xD Like I understand a bit why they don't like the SAFE Act, like the fact it was passed too quickly and there was a lot of problems with it, and pretty much screwed over law abiding citizens. But I agreed with the general consensus of "let's limit who has guns, hm?"

But seriously, there is NRA and Tea Party rallies here, and its like:

And I'm like the same way. Like I was talking to my mom and she's like "yeah I don't know who our state representative is or our district number is." I mean I don't know my district number is, but I at least know who my state legislator is.

Also do you know what's really scary? When you have to explain to the people in office what something is. I remember once when I was in college I was doing a story on texting and driving, and so I asked the state police (who I lived near), the town police of my hometown and the city police of where my college was at. The Police Chief of the city didn't know the difference between a secondary law and and a primary law. This was my face:

From there I had people who were lower in the totem pole sort of admit to me they didn't know what stuff meant or whatever. I would look it over and its like, this concept as a whole is NOT hard to understand. My editor pretty much told me these local politicians are good people, but aren't exactly qualified to be in government. I had one tell me over the phone that what something which pretty much I felt was a health concern, let alone a monteray concern for the whole town, was none of my business and he wasn't going to tell me what was up with the situation. My editor laughed and was like "yeah that's because they have no ❤❤❤❤ing clue. They totally did the process wrong."

But all of it together is like, how is this my life? How did I not notice before? Why won't you people care?

YES. EXACTLY. I'm also really worried about stuff on a local level since when I go to these town and village board meetings, I feel like the people can say stuff all they want, but at the end of the day, I'm not sure if this stuff goes through. I know there was a big to do about the sale of this town hall and the town supervisor pretty much told me even if they do a special election and a majority vote no, the town can make just another movement to do it and they can keep doing it. So basically tax payers waste their money saying stuff on what they believe in, and even if it keeps getting put off, if both sides have time, the town is going to win out in the end because of monetary issues. And even though I mentioned that in the article I did, it was like this didn't seem to really raise any red flags in anybody but me. And I was like ... really? Does nobody feel threatened by this that our government is slowly merely becoming lip service to us? That the only way you can keep it from screwing you over is by becoming involved?

Also I remember something about Native American something being mentioned around here. I think it was taxing their cigarettes. Eventually the state taxed stuff like Malbro and what not, so the reservations around here started making their own, but yeah.

I remember once when I covered elections last year (I think it was the March village elections) and it was like 30-40 people voted. And it was like ... seriously? I know this is March, but come on. Not that November elections are much better with only like what, 13 percent of people voting? I expected it to be in the thousands at least, but it was like lol, hundreds. Sure that was nice for the reporters who need to stay until every last vote is counted, but it has a lot to speak about our democratic system.

Eh, I'd say I'm semi-familiar with her stuff specifically and while some of it I don't think is 100% on target and some points miss other broader points, I've never heard her speak out about genuine media portrayals of female sexuality (totally possible that she has, I just don't see anything I'd qualify as such off the top of my head)...she's definitely called out sexuality tropes and some borderline examples, but I tend to be of the opinion that she's not the be-all-end-all of feminist media critique, nor should she be.

And it's not really her focus nor her point to point out exceptions to what she sees as a rule (this being the element that is overlooked by the vast majority of people and the root of the problem in her opinion) in the media (although I thought she had talked about Beyond Good and Evil as a positive use of a female character?).

Plus, I'd say the sex-positive feminist outlook sometimes misses the point and makes too little distinction between actually positive female-agency driven sexuality (not female-dominant necessarily, but definitive consent and ownership of one's dominant or submissive actions)...I'm all for shame-free sexuality, but the way this stuff is shot/presented/acted/etc. is pretty crucial in making it a positive portrayal to me. So while I totally think the old-guard feminists who think Beyonce's dancing is anti-feminist are waaaaaaaaaaaaay off base, I also don't think there's tons of sex-positive portrayals of women...most still feel less like realized people, or are realized people shot in a disgusting sort of way that makes me feel just by watching it that I'm making love to them with my eyes.

tl;dr I guess everyone has their own opinion and focus and no one presents a perfect consensus of a critique (nor should they have to)

but now I wrote you a huge long thing and I feel like I lectured you like a dick ahhhhh please tell me if I'm being extremely ignorant of something though/if I'm totally missing an obvious point show me the liiiiiiiight
