Start your paper with the how the German Order State ceased to exist in the middle of the 16th century and how Sweden, Denmark, Russia and Poland competed over territories in the Baltic Region. Sweden managed to conquer the northern part of Estonia and this was the beginning of a very expansive Swedish foreign policy. Then move into the 17th century wars particularly with Sweden's entry into the Russian Civil War and Gustav II Adolf's decision to enter the 30 years war in Europe.
