Well, this makes me fairly confident that it's all good. As for the Tories, I guess we'll have to see what happens. Cameron only said he'd hold a referendum if the Treaty isn't yet in effect, so it comes down to whether the Czechs ratify before your elections.

Heh. That's in direct contrast to Ireland - even the opposition parties were all on board with Lisbon. That's how I knew it'd get passed no matter what way I voted. To be honest, now that I know that it won't affect our constitution in a negative way, and referenda are still required for further treaties, I'm quite happy it passed.

Well, TBH, I don't think it's a bad thing that countries are actually considering what they're signing. These are historic times, and if the Treaty can be improved, then it should be. If it can't, then Cameron will learn that quickly enough once in power, and change his tune.

To be fair, holding a referendum isn't the same as derailing it - it could still pass, after all.

After further reading, I see that the Czech Republic may delay ratification until around the time of the UK General Election, at which point the Tories say that if elected, they will put the Treaty to a Referendum. So Lisbon hasn't succeeded yet, it seems.
