Moffat is a sexist ass, alas, but I didn't notice any sexism in the two seasons of his I've seen. Amy is competent and assertive, while Rory falls into roles typically reserved for women, despite being a man.

I could see something, I guess, with women pining after the Doctor, but that's hardly new, and Moffat plays with that, too.

As to Smith: Perhaps a better term is less mercurial than Tennant: Tennant would go from deep seriousness to jokes at the drop of a hat, while Smith takes a bit longer to switch. I certainly wouldn't describe him as more manic, though.

For a while I considered Tennant to be "my doctor" (the general term for one's favourite) but Matt Smith is very close on that list, and they occasionally trade places. Smith is essentially a more sedate Tennant, with fewer outright-silly plots. It works well.

Oh, and the Smith series, being written primarily by Moffat (Created the Angels, and the Vashtu Narada, and others. ) are darker and much creepier, though still with humour, so lots to look forward to there.

Mostly interstate for conferences, though I was in New York about a year and a half ago. I might be going to Europe again in the middle of the year, but I'm not sure yet. Oh, and I'll be visiting family in New Zealand too this year. So lots of travelling still to do! Where in Great Britain are you off to? Are you going there for a holiday?

Nah, I was modded in December 2011. Where've you been travelling? I haven't heard of contra dancing before...to Google! *checks* Oh I see...cool! There probably are folk dancing clubs here for it, but it wouldn't be as anywhere near as popular as it is in America, I think. One style of dance that seems to be gaining popularity here is Zouk, if my friends are any indication.

Same old with me...university, a bit of travel (just for conferences/workshops), nothing much more exciting than that. My cats are getting quite old now sadly - they'll be 16 and 21 years old this year. They still seem to be healthy and happy though.

Oh man, sorry about that! I'm can be pretty terrible when it comes to replying to VMs or PMs lol - usually what happens is I log in from my phone or iPod and see the message, but because I don't usually reply straight away the notification goes away the next time I log in using my laptop, and I forget.
