A battle eh? Very well I accept, but let's have it in the training grounds.

Well, you have a few options:

1. Query Sage_of_Stars, the head of the grounds, for an assignment, of which he usually posts regularly within the grounds. If you want the current challenge, you would just need to browse through the pages to find it.
2. Create something, be it written, drawn, musical, etc etc, and submit it. It doesn't necessarily need to be related to Zelda or the group, or that long really, but it helps and would be recommended.
3. Challenge Sage_of_Stars or another of the training grounds staff to a battle. Your skill in countering attacks and being creative with your own may grant you passage.

In short, if you were to go the route of the training grounds, you would have to prove yourself to SoS and the grounds teachers, who then pass the word on to me to send an invite. It's not terribly difficult, as long as some effort is put in to it. Mention you were a sage before and I'm sure you'll be fine.

No, not necessarily. The option is given to all those who come, previous Sage or no, to pass through the training grounds and be given a class test. Should you wish to forgo said testing, I would have no problem shuffling you in.
