Actually i think the pattern to paste in is very much easier as I copypasted that from a 4 year old forum, there's probably some command like $swapprefix or something like that which does it instantly. It still works flawlessly though so I don't mind, really.

FLAC files are very taggable, shouldn't be a problem. ;3

Replacing a string can get really damn complicated. Especially when you have all those string formatters with modulos everywhere and heirarchies of quotation marks. I'm sure I can figure it out eventually, though.
Okay, I just tried this with Columns UI and it was very easy (it was literally right click "edit column" and paste in one thing and it was done). With the Default User Interface, it's slightly tricker but it's so very slight that it shouldn't be a problem.

    a) ctrl+p
    b) click "playlist view"
    c) in custom columns click "add new"
    d) name it Artist or whatever floats your boat
    e) paste this into pattern:
    Quote:
    $if($stricmp($left(%album artist%,4),'The '), $right(%artist%,$sub($len(%album artist%),4))', The', [%album artist%] )
    f) go back to foobar
    g) right click the columns on top, uncheck the old "Artist", and check the new "artist" you just created
    h) drag it so it's in your favorite position (to the left or right or whatever floats your boat
    i) enjoy!

I find synchronizing with iPods quite easy! A plugin called foo_dop does it quite seamlessly without much problem.

I gotta go in 5 minutes so I can't check the "The" thing, but I'll try to find something before this evening. It might be slightly complicated, but only in the sense that you need to right click something and replace a string.

actually picarddownload is quite simple and it should have plenty of albums - for me it even has albums in genres most people don't even know of. o_o

From what I understood, you just click cluster, then click...

I recommend this program - it seems really awesome and I believe I have used it before.

Of course, maybe using lots of peripherals goes against the whole "complete feeling", but this also saves you some heat as it tags music from the web properly. ;3

That didn't work. It still won't update with new songs I've added to that folder. Do I have to refresh my media library somehow?
    Yes sir!
I am not sure if you have to sort by folder structure, but it's a nice way to sort files, so try doing that
then a) click any random folder
    b) click "all music"

Also, that auto-fill-values feature you detailed merely retags the file based on the filename. That also doesn't work because my filenames are just the song title.
unless it's Various Artists albums, it should be no problem - first use autotag on the song titles (%title%), then fill in the artist (since you have it selected), and then click auto track number. Done!

Regardless, I exported my iTunes library using that application you linked to, and had it copy my entire library into a new folder. I am unsure as to how I get new songs into my library now, because obviously if I were to obtain a new album, that M3U doesn't update itself, I'd have to import the songs into iTunes, re-export the M3U, and re-import it in foobar. That's a lot of work. Now, instead, I could just add the new songs to that big library folder I had made when I originally exported my library, and then re-add that whole folder, but that also lots of work. Ideally, I could just add the songs directly to the folder and foobar using folder monitoring would detect that I added songs and automatically put them into my library. I've looked all over the entire interface and nowhere have I found a way to make that work. Help?
    Easy!
    a) add a folder using that media library thingy
    b) check library viewer selection playlist (and activate when changed)
    c) enjoy as you can click "all songs" on the album list and all tracks in the folder will be selected - even new ones that you added two seconds ago!

Here's a page that also explains a bit how the library works

Wow, the desire to get a new sound card in the first place pretty much pushes you to level 2 in audiophilia.
I already have a sound card (from my old computer) which I can't use due to not enough PCI slots (my wireless network card takes the only one I have). I'm very disappointed with the sound quality so I want my sound card back - so I'm buying an USB wireless adapter so I get room for my sound card, basically.

So, how do I make Folder Monitoring work in foobar? I hear it's a happy dandy thing that makes it superior to iTunes and it sounds like a great idea.
Ctrl+P, Media Library, add.. in the music folders panel
    Quote:
And how does foobar's library configuration work anyway? Does it store the data of your library into one big m3u or xml file somewhere?
Actually that's the problem I have with iTunes, if iTunes stored its library files like some other players do I'd be much more content with it, to be honest. I just don't like the thought of a program writing 70mb of text every time I change a song, especially if I use an USB hard drive... I forgot how exactly it stores the library, but no tags and so are kept inside the library itself.
Of course, Andy, I might tell you a problem before it appears - WAV files does not support tags as you well know. You might find this an annoyance, but there's a couple solutions. There might even be a plugin to solve it.
