Portable. The ability to control your party members is huge. I mean, they have an above-average AI, and remember stuff like enemy weaknesses, but they still aren't in on your strategies and don't always make decisions that you'll agree with.

Heh, yes and no. It's a bit too tongue-in-cheek, but the general idea of small, disparate, bands forming together and a heavily-factionalized world seem to match what we know of human nature.

Yeah. It's a problem. During disasters you get, essentially, gangs. People start off banding together so that they can do more and so that the theoretical others will find them harder pickings. Then idiots with more greed than morals form raiding gangs, seeing this as a chance to get on top. Then both sides start getting larger, since that's how you survive, and then you form strong loyalties to your gang and that, inevitably, means you hate others (even other non-raiders) because they're not part of your group, and then everything goes to hell.

Humans lived for hundreds of thousands of years in small (100-200-strong) roaming tribes. When civilization collapses we go back to that, and while that's better than everyone for themselves, it's still problematic.

Heh. I'd do poorly in one, I think, but I'm not overly worried.

Worst-case scenario there's a medieval weapons shop just down the road. I think their stuff is mostly replica, but they do have some genuine weapons (such as throwing knives) so I might be able to find a decent zombie-inconveniencer there.
