The perfect LP recipe for success: funny and informative?

Hey everyone!

While I don't want to be sounding as if I'm simply shamelessly promoting myself, I simply wanted to gauge the community's interest in the type (as well as the style) of Let's Plays that I am doing!

With the dream goal of eventually becoming a full-time Youtube Partner and online gaming video producer, I am reaching out to you today wanting to know what a true gaming community like this one thinks of my style of LPs, where I am seeking to combine comedy and educational value!

(You can check out my YouTube channel at ZakkiLewis - YouTube)

I am currently working on my first series (Conker's Bad Fur Day - N64) and I have gotten relatively great feedback so far on my style of commentary with one LP reviewer calling my voice ''very entertaining'' (LPReviewsForYou - Featured Channel #6 - YouTube). I feel I have been going in the right direction, but due to a lack of exposure I haven't been able to get my name out there enough.

So this is my question to you: Is there room in the online gaming community for these kinds of Let's Plays? And if so, What do you think of my style of commentary and its potential for growth?

(Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and thank you to the moderators and regular posters for making this a GREAT community!)

Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of Rare's masterpieces.

It's also a game that's fairly easy to be humorous and informative with, as it lends itself well to humor.

Good point! I wonder how well I would do if I were doing an LP series on E.T. for the Atari LOL!

It's hard to be informative when there's nothing to be informative about.

"Oh, I fell into this hole. I don't know why. It just happened. This game ♥♥♥♥ing sucks."

From the first episode, which was pretty entertaining, this LP shows good promise! You have a good voice for it, and the commentary had some interesting tidbits.

Though, to be honest, I was enjoying the game cutscenes a bit more than the commentary. I would also avoid trying to commentate over the voice acting bits.

All in all, I want to check the rest of this out because you pull off a cool presentation.

Hey!

Thanks for checking it out. I guess what I would tell you is that I perfected my commentary and presentation a heck of a lot since the first episode, and that if you really wanted a better gauge of my commentating style, check out the more recent episodes!

I find that they are much more entertaining and even include a bit of original music composed by my band.

Let me know what you think!

Re: The perfect LP recipe for success: funny and informative?

If I knew the recipe for being a well known LP'er I'd have way more subs haha I joke, but all I know is that I like people who are informative about the game, yet can entertain you, whether that means blatant off the wall-ness (ie Chuggaaconroy) or more of a laid back, good game play, yet still quite humorous (ie my personal favorite Batman9502). Also you have to have a good voice. You can't have an annoying voice obviously or people wont like it.. Also I think you have to be informative/good at the game as well. Most people don't want to watch you fail, they want to watch you and see how the game is supposed to be played, and how to get through certain areas. But that is just my opinion on what I like in a LP'er.

Also just thought I'd let you know you have a great voice for LP'ing! And you have some good work going! And you dont seem to be LP camera shy like most people (including me) were during their first LP!

I totally agree dude! Thank you so much for the feedback! Also, next episode I'm gonna be doing my LP with a Sean Connery (James Bond) voice impression ! Hope to see you then!!
