Let's Play Recommendations

This is the thread where you can recommend Let's Plays and Let's Players who you believe are entertaining and worth our time to watch. I know there is the "Underrated Lets Players" thread, but that's the thing, that thread is only recommending the underrated. This thread will be for all, without any distinction between the people we probably know, the people we think others SHOULD know, but they likely don't, and even the people that we have a special spot for and don't really realize are awful.

I'll be editing the OP with each recommendation, sorting them out by who is recommending them and linking to either the channels, websites, or the individual LP pages on lparchive.org.

I'll start by recommending an LPer and a specific LP. The first is, once more, Helloween4545. He tends to focus mostly on the survival horror genre, mostly doing blind Let's Plays. Many times I have watched his Let's Plays and found myself wanting to obtain the game, myself (which I have in 5 cases, already). His commentary is either really funny or quite reflective of the content and the Let's Play footage can even give that nerve-wracking feeling that the games in the genre should be giving when actually playing the game. This is especially true during the Amnesia LP and the mannequin bit of Condemned.

The specific Let's Play I'd like to recommend is a Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Let's Play by Slowbeef, though it includes many guest commentators. Slowbeef is one of the earliest LPers, from what I understand, and he's also one of the best, in my opinion. The Metroid Prime 3 LP, for me, is one of the greatest examples of how to make a great LP, with the guests acting as guides to keep him from going all over the place, the commentary ranging from plain ol' informative to being hilarious, and it has Ridley. This LP has led to many laughs between myself and a friend trying to master that elusive Ridley voice that Slowbeef and Diabetus have mastered and also contains what is probably the most amazing boss fight video, if not LP video in general, of all time.

I, myself, will probably recommend more as time passes, but those'll get their own posts, as well as edits into the OP.

Matt and Pat (they also have a series on Machinima called Two Best Friends Play.)

They're basically the reason I got into LPing.

Re: Let's Play Recommendations

So, when I last edited this, I included a new suggestion of my own: ChipCheezum and General Ironicus. The website linked there, chipandironicus.com, contains all of the LPs they have done together (along with Chip's Bastion, which is solo, and his MGS1, with Voidburger, who is also very good). They are a really great duo and all of their LPs, as far as I've seen (I haven't finished all of them, yet) are absolutely superb. Also, Chip is such a wonderfully awkward commentator (Best example: Watch their Spiderman LP and wait for him to return from the bathroom when Ironicus is running away from the police).

Also, at some point, they start doing something known as "dual commentary," in which they have separate audio tracks that you can choose from, one having commentary during cutscenes and the other without the cutscene commentary. I know a lot of people here don't like cutscene commentary, which is why I linked to the site, which defaults to the track without the cutscene commentary. One of Chips Youtube channels, ChipCheezumLP (there's also ChipCheezumSA, which is their retsupurae channel), has playlists with the uncut commentary.

Re: Let's Play Recommendations

I've got to introduce two specific let's plays for the same game, the Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link. I thought I was a good gamer the first time I managed to beat it, but these people are several levels ahead of me since they're playing it under special conditions.

PinkKittyRose has just finished her no-damage run of the game. There are save states between videos, but it's still very impressive. Watching this you would think the game is pretty easy.

Youtube username floooooooooooooooood beat the game with minimum leveling up. He's a ZU member so some of you probably checked out his videos when he opened a thread for it at the time. I'm linking to video #2 because the first part doesn't work for some reason, which might be temporary or just my crappy connection.

Both let's plays just happen to use subtitled commentary, which isn't the reason why I'm recommending them as I'm more likely to watch voice commentary gameplay.

davidr64yt, AKA "X"

This man is probably my favourite Let's Player. He has a HUGE backlog of unfinished projects that he's trying to work his way through. He recently started a schedule system in order to do this. That said, he's the person who introduced many to Minecraft. (Cody introduced me to MC; X showed me how to do it.) Other favourites include Portal 2, one of his few completed projects; POWDER, an LP of a rouge-like that was simply hilarious; and his Oblivion videos, in which he plays the aging Dark Elf "Tea-bandit" X. A good portion of his Oblivion LP is actually on his Twitch.tv account, but whatever. Funny anyway. Oh, and he plays and commentates Starcraft 2 and LoL, often on his livestream at Twitch.

That's my two cents, anyway.
(He can also be found on Twitter as "davidangel64")

Re: Let's Play Recommendations

HCBailly is my favorite. He's very thorough and informative in his LPs and adds a good sense of humor to them, as well. Pretty entertaining, and he's also a good, experienced player. It's because of his LP of Final Fantasy VII that I learned the best way to defeat the Emerald Weapon, which I finally did for the first time. If you like Final Fantasy and other medieval/"dungeons and dragons" style games, he's your guy. The only problem is he still has yet to do a console Zelda game!

Re: Let's Play Recommendations

Have you folks been following that miraculous Four Swords Adventures thread over at Something Awful? It's a four-player let's play between Pokecapn, Kung-Fu Jesus, My Name Is Kaz and Medibot. I figured I should mention it at this recommendations thread since that's precisely what I'm doing, recommending you to check it out. Nothing like this has ever been done before in the history of let's play. Be there to witness it in the making, right now they've still got at least five worlds (more than 15 videos) ahead of them.

Would anybody be able to recommend a good LP of Persona 3? I've been looking for one for a while, but can't find any I like. =[

There's a screenshot LP on the Let's Play Archive right here, if you are up for a screenshot LP. To my knowledge, the Persona games are RPGs (never actually played or watched them), so screenshot tends to be the best approach.

Hmm, I'll give that a go, though I would prefer a video LP. NakaTeleeli did a (IMO) pretty good Persona 4 video LP if any one knows of anything similar.

For what it's worth, I would recommend that LP, if you want to add that to the OP. I'd recommend most of his LPs TBH.
