Let's Play General Discussion Thread

This thread is for general discussion on LPs and similar videos - anything from talking about your favourite LPers and reccommending channels to discussions on LP episodes and other such relevant topics.

I'll be one of the first posts I guess.
I wanted to share with everyone my very inspiration for Let's Playing in the first place.

First is the guy who helped me get my capture card and everything set up: Corona180
His channel has been dead for the past few months because of personal problems. But, his old videos are still up, and they're really enjoyable. My favourite being Jet Force Gemini. (Duh!)

Second is the one who gave me advice and pushed me along through those tough beginning stages: ScottishDuck17
He's currently doing Half-Life 2 and has so much content to watch, it's hard to keep up sometimes.

These two really started my career and I can't thank them enough. They're both wondrous Let's Players as well as people. I hope you do check them out if you haven't already!

The biggest inspirations for me are SSoHPKC and Squashylemon. The first most likely needs no introduction, SSoH has become one of the biggest channel in the LP community. Squashylemon on the other hand is a small channel, but I thoroughly enjoy his videos, very likable voice in my opinion. He did have a looong long break from YouTube due to computer problems, but came back recently with an LP of the original Fallout.

Also, does anyone think the new playlist editor is a HUGE improvement from the previous one?

It's all about lastexile0. He's my most favorite LPer ever and my sensei.


Also, I was planning on doing some more recordings tonight and tomorrow night to stock up on my vids to upload throughout the week, but I seem to be coming down with something and I keep coughing.

I actually haven't been sick once during my LP career. I've had small coughs and runny noses, but nothing too big.

Most of my inspiration comes fromNintendoCapriSun, Dario8676, JoshJepson, and LancerD1984.

I actually started watching LPs about four years ago. The first LPer I ever watched was Cauchemar89. I stumbled across one of his videos while watching someone play Kaizo (if you don't know what that is, it's a hard-as-hell Super Mario World hack).

Believe it or not, it was after watching Blizz's LP of VVVVVV that I decided to hop aboard the LP bandwagon and attempt it. Finally, in May, my own channel was born.

Damn, I can see this place turning out to be my favorite haunt. I haven't had a place like that since way back in the Sprite Comic Ghetto days.

My friends! Hear my tale of woe!

I wanted to do an LP of Sonic CD, but I forgot that SEGA is now making a big deal out of the game (since it's the prequel to Sonic 4) and are re-releasing it for XBLA, PSN, and Steam. This means that everyone is going to LP it now. Grrr....

I'd say I have a lot of inspirations for starting LPing. I started watching Slowflake's Pokemon Let's Plays and I still do watch them, but I've found many Let's Players who I admit are better and more enjoyable. Blizz mentioned lastexile0, whom I do enjoy. I found Chuggaa and NCS through Slowflake and somehow happened upon Helloween4545, my personal favorite Let's Player.

My friend and LP partner, zer0wolfe, introduced me to the SomethingAwful forums and, though I haven't registered ($10 for a membership with a ♥♥♥♥-ton of limitations that require more money to get rid of? BULLLL♥♥♥♥!), I have gone on LP overload through the LP Archive connected to it, as well as some of the active threads, such as Didja Redo's new Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines LP, in which he takes the role of Ghandhi, the vampire Ahimsa Ninja.

Speaking of lastexile0, I made a tribute video for him using his own gameplay footage about a year ago. It was a big project, and I don't know if I could ever pull it off again:

I have a question to ask you all: I'm thinking about starting an ongoing series where I play arcade games, but I'm not really settled on a name for the series. The original idea I had was to all it "Anon's Arcade Asylum," but I don't really like the sound of it. I just may end up using this name after all.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what the series should be named?

Well, if you remember, I called my little deal "Arcade Fridays" or something like that.

I was just going through my subscriptions, cleaning out old and locked threads, and I found your thread about the arcade Fridays thing. It was actually called "Retro Fridays," but I think that's a little redundant for me since I already LP retro games.

I have an interesting plan, and I'd like to know what you guys think.

Okay, so now that I HAVE DA POWAH! to make my videos awesome, both video AND audio quality, I was thinking about rebooting some of my earlier LP's. The first that comes to mind is my LP of The Lion King. I never completed it, and I really want to. But then I thought why not just reboot it altogether since it's an awesome game that deserves better quality?

I know I said that I wouldn't post stuff on Sundays since I'm using that time to make more videos, but I'm actually thinking of using that time slot for uploading something special once a week, and I think a reboot of The Lion King would be a good start.

This place needs to be more active. It's becoming a LP dumping ground without a community. I'll do better with watching other vids and giving comments, but you guys need to as well! People are just coming in and dumping their channels without commenting on anyone else's stuff, so really this place is no better than the advertising section unless we shape up!

i try to watch a vid or two while mine renders. havent commented yet though as i havent had much to say lol.

The problem is that almost everybody here seems to be that way. So we need to make an effort to post more comments.

I've been so busy watching Let's Plays on Youtube and SomethingAwful.

I'm sorry! At some point, I will be more active here.

I'll try to be more active here than I am. I'm a very frequent visitor here since the subforum was created, but I haven't commented much. I've liked some of the posts, though.

NintendoCapriSun always makes me laugh. he's got a very good sense of humor but manages to keep most of his videos clean and family friendly. a big plus in my book when it comes to doing public lets plays of video games that you know kids are going to enjoy watching.
