OCD

Nothing really special about this thread. I was just wondering if many other people here had OCD like I do. It really isn't that bad for me, though the way my mother is, it seems to get worse with age. The only really odd thing that I do, besides the random orginization, is when I microwave something, If I want to stop it before the timer finishes, I can't stop it unless the last digit on the timer is 5 or 0. Anyone else like this?

I do have some OCD-esque tendencys, but they are more linked to my Autism then actually having OCD.

Example: I have to walk a certain way when walking on tiled floor, for small tiles I have to walk over two, for large tiles I have to have two steps in each tile. On rare occassions i have actually started my walk over because I didn't step right.

I can't drink Soda out of a can if the Tab isin't on.

I have to make everything symettrical.

Theres more but i can't think of them...is this really serious buisness?

I do the same thing with the sidewalk squares. I try to walk with a rhythym/pattern of one or 2 steps (or one and two, alternating) but never step on the cracks.
I also count steps when i go up/down. and if I get one hand wet, I have to get them both wet then dry them or they feel "uneven". sometimes I do the same if I bump or brush against something, too.

but none of these things are 100%. I don't dothem all the time. I really don't know what determines when I choose to act ont the OCD or not. maybe it's only when I'm not preoccupied with other thoughts.

actually, the getting my hands wet part is pretty much every time...
EDIT: I actually think this isn't serious business and would be interested to see what other OCD tendancies other people have. any chance of moving the thread? Then again, maybe some of the GCC-only people will see "OCD" and think "well that can't be TOO serious, I'll check it out"

oh that does suck. my boyfriend did that once when he was a little kid in class one day. he just kept picking out hairs until he had a bald spot. of course when you're a kid you don't really consider the consequences as thoroughly as one more mature would

he was punished and his mom shaved his head!!
Good thing it didn't develop into a habit. he's already balding a little (I don't mind!)

yeah, I've done it all my life.
always been able to hide my bald spots though, luckily, I have really thick hair.

and I want to clarify: I'm not one of those trichotillomaniacs who eat their hair, I "just" pull it out.

I have a very mild form of OCD so it dosen't really affect my life. But when I was younger I always had the urge to scratch my sternum. It got to the point where I acctually started bleeding, but it's basically gone away.

This thread would probably have been better off in the general section, but whatever. As far as my OCD things go, I don't have anything serious. The only thing I do is keep my bookshelves really really organized.

I don't usually mind if my room is a mess, although I did when I was younger.

I suffer from a minor case of dermatillomania, which is an annoying habit of picking your own skin which I do with my fingers. It drives me nuts to do it, but I can't stop. However, it's very minor and I only do it on occassion, so it never got worse.

ooo, then we have similar problems, although mine is not that minor.

but still, I pick the hair, it must be awful to do it with the skin.

Oh man, I did that once. It was only a few weeks, I suppose I sort of replaced my old nailbiting with a new habit. I was hell of irritable and I used to just pull out hair constantly. One maths lesson I pulled out a huge chunk on the the front right side of my head. I had a bald patch for a while, and I still have big patches of hair that is far shorter than the rest of my hair.

Having a chronic form of this must be a pain in the ass :/

It's not an official case for me, but all the symptoms are there. Too bad my parents think it's just a habit and nothing else, but I talked to a few teachers who know of these sort of things, and they said it most likely is what I think. It wasn't until I met a doctor one time that my case was final.

I also did a bit of research into it beforehand, and I pretty much got the same result. Why do parents want to believe it's not a big deal?

BTW, it is really annoying.

Well my parents suffer from a similar delemia when it comes to me beng Autistic.

The thing is that they don't want to beleive that anything is wrong with their children, and that they are not in any way different from the norm. Parents generally want to beleive that anything that could be wrong is just us, their children, making excuses for our actions, as apposed to the truth of us trying to give a reason for them. Basically they see anything like that as a weakness.

Everyone has some sort of OCD in them, but the people who need to be treated is if it is pretty serious.

I must always check my alarm clock by turnign it on and off constantly before I go to bed, because I always think that something is deliberatly changing it to the wrong time and I can't stop and yes, it is annoying.
