Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Though controlling Link with the touch screen was easy to do, it really made combat with the more difficult enemies annoying. It's like playing a first person shooter with one thumbstick, where you have to click the thumbstick to shoot.

(Sorry, next paragraph is Future Zelda material, just wanted to mention it)
I really hope ZeldaWii doesn't pull this junk too, where you have to control Link by directing him with the Wii Remote. Please, Nintendo, we have a joystick on the nunchuck for a reason. Don't do what I think you're going to do!

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Loved it. The control scheme is a good example of why I was so impressed with Phantom Hourglass. I didn't get my hopes up one bit for this title, but when I got my hands on it, I found myself drawing paths on my map for Bombchus, firing at sea monsters with a cannon in an entirely 3D world (on a handheld system, even), and literally blowing out torches through the microphone. The effort put into the game's controls really showed and I didn't even expect it. I was always learning something new with the controls while interacting with the world, facing bosses, and playing minigames.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Hated it. Yeah, my hand also got in front of the screen too, and my touchscreen is not exactly scratch less so the feel of it was also bad. It became annoying fast, and is probably the reason I'm not that interested in ST.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I loved PH's controls. If there was something a DS Zelda needed, it was to utilize the touch screen in a new, fun way.

It needs some getting used to at first, because it's natural for someone who's new to the game to assume that the D-pad controls Link. Other than that, I really enjoyed it (apart from having to stand still when using an item. That could really make things a little difficult for me). I loved how they items like the boomerang and the bombchu to use though, that was truly top-notch.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I thought the fighting system was a little broken. All you had to do was repeatedly tap the enemy and they don't stand a chance.
And the shield system was virtually non-existent.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

The controls were amazing.

A majority of the haters are either hardcore Zelda conservatives not willing to accept change, or people who have an underlying problem with Phantom Hourglass and blame it solely on the touch controls and the Temple Of The Ocean King. The controls themselves are near flawless aside from the time stopping, but many people are just too used to the norm to let it slide.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Aye, takes a bit of adjustment to the controls. It is seamless to reaction time/etc., though not quite used to it after a few months. Desensitized by the original platform of Zelda, mainly A Link to the Past, as well as the original.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I thought the controls were spot-on. I also like the fact that Nintendo tried something new (and it worked) instead of just sticking to the buttons.

I thought the controls were fairly simple and made excellent use of the system.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I hope PH's control system is carried over to all other handheld Zelda's.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

The controls could be annoying at times but I felt that they worked very good and used the DS features very well. The controls broke the game for some but I was OK with them.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

D-pad rocks. It just rocks. The stylus controls where not so-good, but they where very precise when usng the bow, that's for sure. The items where very fun to use, too, but MAN, it's annoying having link slashing and rolling when you're running, and the fact that you can't pause the game to switch items is annoying. The sea parts where boring as hell, too

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

The PH control system was fine. There using it again in ST which is also fine. However that should be it. I find the traditonal d pad and button controls to work better in a zelda handheld adventure.
