Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I know some people like the touch controls, but I found them superfluous. They could have had button as well as touch controls. That way, everyone's happy.

True! I mean, I still enjoyed the game, and will undoubtedly enjoy Spirit Tracks. I just felt it made the game easier than it should have been... I'd rather make the "effort" to run up and manually slash at enemies/objects than tapping a screen and watching Link do it by himself...

Wink

i hated it! i went from majoras mask to phantom hourglass, the controls were so diffrent i swear for 30minutes i kept tryin to use the controls like MM then i read the manual, i was oh you gotta be ****TIN ME! i thought it was the coolest thingy ever until i start playin.

next thing i know im scratchin my screen to the point where i had to get screen cleaner, the controls suck if you use any button is opens the menu or map i got killed tons of times cuz of that! i never get killed over dat in the OoT/MM games. but PH was way toooooooooo DS-fied.

they shouldve made it optional, either use the buttons, or touch screen.
but i did love the bmbchu, boomerang,&bow control XD it was brilliant & far better than OoT/MM lol

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

The controls were great especially control of the Bombchu, Boomerang and Grappling hook. They used the stylus and mic creatively for puzzles. There were some flaws, rolling took some getting used to, and the time stopping mechanic was unpredictable. Howeve the controls were definately the mos t innovative part of PH and I hope it sets the standard for future Zelda handhelds.

Starfox Command and Metroid Prime: Hunters use this control style, they work just fine. So it does make f@#&^%$ sense.

I liked the control scheme used in PH. However, I didn't like being able to just tap an enemy and have Link attack. I read somewhere that this has been taken out of ST, if this turns out to be true then I won't have any gripes.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

The control system was great. It was really fluid and worked well in and out of battles. I had no problem at all with my hands obscuring the screen since I used the stylus in the way it is meant to be used (like a pen), rather than using my fingers jabbing at it from above

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Just bought PH today(Along with a DS for $50 off a friend actually) and I have to say, I would've preferred using directional buttons to control Link.

I'm not far into the game at all, but I thought the touch mechanism would only be used for items like the boomerang and such, but using it to control Link was kind of tacky. I like how it can make him run faster than ever, I'll give it that, but I honestly would have preferred to just use the directional buttons.

That being said, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and keep on getting used to using the touch pen to control Link.

i couldnt agree more
stylus shouldve just been used for puzzles and items, not movement

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

It took some getting used to, but just like pretty much any other control system (almost) that I've used as soon as you get used to it it's done with, feels natural.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I realy liked the game. I had no problem seeing things. And if they made it so you pressed the botem but the top moved it would be harder, in my thoughts. it whould also not work as well as a game in my opineon(P.S. can't spell well)

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I think the controls were absolutely fantastic. They were very easy to get used to, and they worked perfectly with the top-down perspective. It'd have been annoying to constantly have to take out and put away the stylus between movement and puzzles. It was something new and interesting, and I think it worked really well.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I borrowed the game from my friend to try it out, played it for 5 minutes...and haven't played it since, I never plan to play it again either. The controls are ATROCIOUS! Sorry, I know a lot of you guys like it, but I just really don't like stylus/motion sense controls. That's another reason why I don't really like TP for the Wii.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Eh, I wasn't a fan of the controls either. I like movement on the D-Pad rather than using the stylus. It gets irritating when part of your hand falls on the bottom screen and slightly screws up Link's movement.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I think the controls in PH is really good, except the roll didn't work. I hope ST will fix that.

I love D-pad, but D-pad and stylus can't work at the same time. For example, Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland use D-pad to move while useing stylus to activate something. But this kind of control is bad, it make my left hand hurt if I play for a long time.

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I thought the controls were fairly good. I got used to them very quickly. The only problems that were persistant throughout the game were trying to roll and trying to open chests (in which Link would likely just attack it).

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

Mmmmmmeh. It was okay, but it could have been loads better. It felt really gimmicky and uninteresting sometimes. And it did get cluttered and confusing, too. I would have preferred a real 3-D game- one where you can actually aim the bow UP and DOWN. The novelty! :O

Re: Thoughts on the PH control system?

I enjoyed the controls, but they weren't pin-point accurate like a D-Pad. Also it felt as if that took up the time Nintendo had developing it. Therefore making the game a less enjoyable as past handhelds.
