Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
Yeah, recently I just played the games and they were great!
But I've noticed that most people don't like the games. |

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
Yeah, they were some of the earlier Zelda games I played, but looking back, I just don't think they were quite as good as the other Zelda games.

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
I haven't played the games yet. I will play them soon though. I am in the middle of a Link's Awakening playthrough right now, and will move onto them next. I have read the OoA manga, but I imagine it's an extremely different experience.
Anyways. I think I can pretty much take a good guess at why the games get ignored. 1. They are handheld. Console games always get more recognition. 2. They are 2D. No one wants to be forced to visualise how the characters would look. No. If the characters aren't big and pretty, no one wants a part of them. ...those obviously don't apply to everyone though.

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
They're both one of my favorites, right up there with Majora's Mask. I found the dungeons really well designed and had a lot more fun with them than I expected.

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
Curses, I had a long explanation of my opinion on those two written down in an older thread, one that appears to have disappeared into the mists of time...Oh well, I'll just write up a quick summary of what I think of the games.
Oracle of Seasons: -Pretty cool overworld, but sometimes it flows in very weird, overly complicated ways that can be really annoying. -Dungeons were nice and simple and had fantastic action, especially regarding the bosses. But, the simplicity does take its toll, and most of the dungeons are rather shoddily designed for the most part. -Story was mediocre, but hey, it works. -Music was pretty tame. Nothing really special there. Somewhat flawed, worse than most Zelda games, but still pretty good, if only for the action. Oracle of Ages: -Overworld flows in the exact same weird and annoying ways as Seasons', but without the great areas the former had. I.e. it's inferior in every way. -The dungeons were drawn-out, convoluted, overly bland and extremely boring. The puzzles were extremely easy and obvious (although I liked the ones where you had to touch every single tile in the rooms once to do some stuff), the enemies were really tame and both the mini-bosses and bosses were garbage in the most literal sense. Worst dungeons in the series, really. -Story was...alright? Sure, somewhat better than in Seasons, but nothing special. -Music's the same tame, forgettable stuff. Whilst Seasons is in the lower parts of the Zelda series, Ages is there at rock-bottom. It's pretty horrible in every way; even all those little quests and such that could be considered pretty cool are drawn-out in really annoying, convoluted ways (see: ridding the ocean of the pollution) and made into really bad quests in every way. I honestly can't find a single thing to praise, aside from maybe the atmosphere that persists in the dungeons, but even that can't stand up to the atmsosphere in at least a dozen other games in the series : \ oh wait, a dozen others...that's all of them eh, it's still pretty accurate |

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
I had ooa a long time ago and remmember that it was awesome so I re- bought it along with oos and they are both awesome, Im currently playing altp on the GBA and it is amazing, I don't know why people feel that the oracle games are bad I think that they are quite good and that there is plenty to do, sometimes they can be a bit annoying but at the end of the day they're great, im getting round to them next after I finish ALTP.

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
Oracle of Ages is one of my favourite hand-held games. I love the style, sprites, characters, story, puzzles, enemies, music and villain.
I never played Oracle of Seasons though [I got Ages, my brother got Seasons and lost it] but I've played the linked ending by using a code generator. |

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
I really enjoyed them both, I found the music great, overall story ok, dungeons generally good and personally loved the maps.
Thought they blew Links Awakening out of the water. They're probably passed over because they were designed by capcom and came at the end of the gameboy's lifespan.

Re: Why do people often turn down the Oracle series?
Hm, maybe that's true but I found the Oracle games and The Minish Cap to be really enjoyable games so personally, knowing a [Zelda] game is made by Capcam wouldn't put me off.
