Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

It was a little short, and the graphics were not the best, but it is a handheld game after all. The DS isn't Wii, after all!

I actually liked it. It is one of the few Zelda games that I could keep playing after I beat it (ship parts and force gems and etcetera)

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

the game was innovative, but quite boring. The gameplay was limited due to the controls and I have the same problem as with TP, it just doesnt give u that feeling that OOT and Alttp gave me. I;m even playin LA right now, instead of PH ...

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

I'll admit, first impression was awful in my opinion. However, after playing it for a short while, it started to grow on me. The main reason I didn't enjoy the game was due to the fact that you have to use the stylus to control Link, and I don't like that playstyle at all. Other than that I would've enjoyed the game a lot more, but the stylus is too inconvenient imo, it always gets in the way of the screen, and it's too different compared to other Zelda games.

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

I really enjoyed the game, and I think it's a good starting point for Zelda games on the DS. It just can't compare to the others of the franchise for me.
It's a really good game, in my opinion.
I've just come to expect brilliance from the Zelda franchise.

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

I sold mine, along with a few other titles as i wasn't playing it for long periods of time. It wasn't that good to be fair, it did have limited controls and all that.

I have read through this entire thing and this is the line in it. Just say it. The controls sucked ass, the dungeons sucked ass, you never get to see any master sword but are treated to a super secret phantom sword which fuses with an hourglass, and to top it all off you have to drag around dickless who probably doesn't even know how to sail a ship. What they did was took Wind Waker gave it worse graphics and worse controls. And if you want to say I am full of it then go ahead. It is the worst game I have ever played and would sell it if any one was stupid enough to buy it from me.

I agree. And what's worse is that I recall reading an interview forever ago where Miyamoto stated that the cel shaded graphics looked good on DS. I thought they were god awful. I would have far preferred ever Nintendo 64 style over how it looked. And I enjoyed both the Nintendo 64 titles as well as The Wind Waker very much. I can't believe they're releasing a sequel to it.

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

Personally, I don't think PH was as bad as it was just plain boring. An uninteresting story, overly simple gameplay and dungeons, virtually no replay value (except the multiplayer mode which I thought sucked and people always use action replays online so its not any fun...). Hopefully ST will be better, but part of me knows it won't be...

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

I tried to give PH a try many, many times, but in the end, I think I've discovered the fatal flaw.

It's having to go back to that damned temple every single time you completed a doungen. You had to start from the entrance and if you get killed, you had to start all over again.

That's what threw me off the game. I didn't mind the graphics or the controls (although I could only do horizontal swipes, apparently). It's the fact that the temple I was FORCED to go to (What was it? Temple of the Ocean King?) only proved to be a test of the encumberence of my sanity. I mean, had you only just respawned at the same room, but the traps were resetted, that would be fine. It was having to start all over again redoing all the traps again.

Is PH really that bad?

I had finished Phantom Hourglass at the end of June, 09. It was a pretty good game. It was right after Wind Waker( which i like), and the new characters are funny. Especially Linebeck. Ciela is like a clone of Navi from OoT when she says, ''Hey, look, listen!!!''. But some of the temples are way too easy. Yet, the game is decent because it has cool cutscenes, and it is cel -shaded like WW. Overall, I like Phantom Hourglass.

You mean nostalgia? Good luck enjoying any game post-OoT, then.

I disagree. Although there are more moves at your disposal, the gameplay is not as smooth as the N64 engine's. They simply took the engine from Wind Waker for TP and added some extra moves in.

Re: Was PH Really That Bad?

i didnt like it too much because i was expecting something like t WW. Not too much like it but it was like when the game was finished then it was FINISHED. unlike other zelda games the boss was easy and there was not much to collect afterword. Even tMC had the kinstones thing to do.

I liked it. The only problem is the temple of the ocean king. The ending confused me too.

Compared to TP the 64's engine is slow as hell

I wasn't arguing about speed. I was arguing about capability.
