Spirit Tracks to be "for a wider age group of people"

Buried in the midst of Nintendo's 2009 fiscal year results is a small note about the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. It's interesting to see how the game's described to investors, rather than fans.

While the game is mentioned only in passing, the report hints at the game's direction, saying that "The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks...will appeal to a wider age group of people, and will launch in the later half of the year".

Hrm. Make of that what you will.

From the GDC trailer, things looked to be in order, but we all know everytime Nintendo says things like this now, it's not good.

Hmmm...interesting. It appeals to a wider age group of people than what - Phantom Hourglass, or the Zelda series in general? I hope it won't be as casual as Phantom Hourglass was, but it probably will be.

Yeah, people thought PH was casual, too easy. This may be worse.

I'm pretty much just expecting an easier PH. Maybe even just traveling is easier on the train than on the boat? We'll have to wait and see.

But Phantom Hourglass had no challenge whatsoever... are you saying that Spirit Tracks will be even easier? Damn you Nintendo!

The puzzles and dungeons were a tad simplistic for my taste. The difficulty was never raised to the point where I actually felt challenged. I hope Spirit Tracks will be harder.

You know, Shigeru said that he intended TWW to be for a wider age group as well. He became surprised when people, at the time, were regarding the game to be for children.

Face it, friends: Zelda games will never be difficult again.

But yes, OoT did seem a bit easy to me, but that's probably because I played the game late.

And each one just keeps getting easier. Except for Oracle of Ages.

Still, I don't understand how the phrase "for a wider age group" seems only to mean "it's for babies" to you people.

What if Spirit Tracks will appeal to all ages in other ways, and leave room for more difficulty?

Just a thought. I mean, they didn't mention how it will appeal.

Heck, I remember when I was a kid, all we had was the NES and super-hard games like Zelda I and II, Contra, TNMT, Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man, etc.--but we were not only content with that...we thrived under it.

(BTW, you still haven't answered me in the other thread from earlier this week. )

I did read your post in the other thread, I just didn't bothered to reply to it.

It could be a hint that it's not going to appeal to just below-ten-year-olds, or over-thirty-year-olds, but perhaps in between. Because really, they can't go any lower on age than they already have, Zelda has been catering to kids since day one.

Of course. But the only real reason it was so hard to them is because they were so young when they first played it.

There are several SNES games I used to find extremely difficult (like Super Metroid and ALttP, to name a couple) but nowadays they're a cakewalk for me.

Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages would all like to have a word with you.

Majora's Mask isn't that hard either. I did have some trouble with the Oracles, though, I'll admit.

And I wouldn't say the newer games are getting easier. Every Zelda game I've played through to completion (which is to say, every Zelda except LoZ, AoL and FS) has had same general level of difficulty.

I bet it's going to have gory violence and nudity.
To appeal more to immature teenagers and creepy old people. Those are some groups they've been completely ignoring.

If it's for a wider group...doesn't that mean it's for older people aswell as children? I mean...they're just saying the game is for everyone. =\
