Re: Anyone Find PH Lame?
I thought it was really addictive and Linebeck was a lot of fun. The only thing really lame about PH was Bellum; it didn't make for a compelling antagonistic force.

Also, the adventure... I don't know... It just didn't capture me at all.

Re: Anyone Find PH Lame?
Actually, I disagree. I thought it was a rather interesting twist to get a non-sentient, mute villain. (Heh, he's like Link--he never talks.
)It added some mystery to him, like is he genuinely a villain, or is he just a mindless beast who's rampaging on the sea because he doesn't know any other life, who just happens to be more powerful than the Great Sea's guardian spirit? If he is just a brute, was there another force controlling him? Perhaps he was a result of some evil magic used by Ganondorf in an earlier time? So yeah, it was probably just laziness on the developers' part, but that doesn't stop me from thinking too much about it anyway. ![]() |

Re: Anyone Find PH Lame?
It is a good game, with a good plot. My only complaint for it was the game controls. You controlled Link entirely with the stylus. It is still a good game though. Definitely worth getting.

Re: Anyone Find PH Lame?
To me, Phantom Hourglass is comparable to Four Swords Adventures. They were both not horrible by any means, but after you beat them there's very little reason to play them over again.

Re: Anyone Find PH Lame?
I find PH to be a great way to spend some time when you feel like handheld-ing. Touch system was fun and innovative, even though I found myself silently swearing whenever I accidentally ran the wrong way or made a jump strike because I accidentally tapped an enemy. It did make me better at handling the stylus though, so it'll get some credit on that part too.
I personally find Ciela to be a decent sidekick. She's useful (well, at least she notifies you of something you should know before you run headlong into stuff) and she actually becomes more helpful later on in the game, and especially in the last battle. Linebeck was brilliant. Ego-tripping little b**** who retains a some kind of charm even after proving useless in almost all regards (except the boat, of course). I think his character development was great, even though it wasn't a whole lot. Other than that, I find the game to be way more gameplay than story. It's quite straight-forward. Sail to a place, get artifact, sail back, go through the Temple of the Ocean King (dear god), get map, go to next location, rinse and repeat, on the way obtaining a sacred sword that you need in order to slay the last boss. Nothing too shabby, but hey, I don't mind. The game isn't too hard, but not too easy either (at least for me). The challenge comes mainly from the controls, as with all handhelds, but I also found the new use of the boomerang and the grappling hook to be gloriously implemented into the game. Controlling the path of the bombchus was also neat. It was basically a whole new way of playing, and I think it worked. Very much so. Just don't ever pull off something like the Ocean King Temple and we'll be good with any future Zelda DS titles, should they be even remotely like PH.
