Why the useless items?

In Phantom Hourglass, you get the Hero's New Clothes, Trade for a Telescope..... Then what?!

What is the point of that, anyway?

Re: Why the useless items?

It's the trading sequence, a common sidequest in Zelda games. In the end you learn the Hurricane Spin, or at least that's what it was called in TWW... Not very useful imo, but kinda fun anyway. Trading is just some random sidequesting stuff to do, I think it's fun. PH's trading seuquence is pretty short though.

Re: Why the useless items?

Yeah, I guess it could be. I don't know, I never remember to use it. Might also be that the two times I've completed PH I didn't bother with trading before pretty late in the game, so I didn't have much use left for it. Should play again and get it sooner this time.

Re: Why the useless items?

I find many items are only useless because they're poorly implemented.

The spinner from TP would have been much more useful had later dungeons included it's tracks. However, because there were few tracks for it, it quickly became quite useless, apart from collecting a couple of heart pieces.

What about the picolyte from TMC? Now THAT was pointless.

I wouldn't mind a Spinner minigame where you raced somebody on it, that would have been great

Re: Why the useless items?

Useless item would probably be the ball and chain from TP. The only place you can actually use it is the cave of ordeals and in the mansion in the mountains. After that it's just a heavy ball with a chain that takes too long to throw when you can just use your sword to kill the enemy in a few strikes.

I might be wrong here, but I think you can use it to get a Piece of Heart in a cave in Hyrule Field. It's in the region where you end up when Midna gets blasted by Lanayru, and right next to the male golden stag beetle for Agitha. You have to use the ball and chain to smash the ice barrier out of the way once you enter the cave, at which point you have access to a puzzle involving pushing ice blocks.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Also I remember having to use it against Zant; smashing his feet with it and watch him going ow ow ow while he shrinks.

it can also be used in place of bombs, at least for those freestanding rocks with rupees inside. I don't know about walls and such.

I found the picolyte useful. There was a time when I was having a complete shortage of green kinstones. I've pretty much almost completed the game, and I still have zero green kinstones....
