Is Link from Link's awakening the same guy as the one in the Oracle series?

Nintendo don't give much hints

It his heavily implied that the Link we see in Link's Awakening is the same Link from A Link to the Past.

Also, this belongs in the Handheld Zelda forum, so I'll go ahead and move it there for you.

Well as Burty had said, it is heavily implied that LA Link is the same from Oracles.

However many people believe that Link is not from Oracles, but rather the same from ALttP. I think it just depends on preference, debating and theorizing.

Re: Is Link from Link's awakening the same guy as the one in the Oracle series?

Link's Awakening was developed alongside A Link to the Past, and adopted many of the quirkly elements from that game into its "dream sequence," which was apparently an amalgam of things from Link's memories and creations of the Wind Fish and/or Nightmares. Since this dream sequence bears a strong resemblance to the progression of A Link to the Past but not to that of the Oracle titles, it's unlikely that Nintendo abandoned Link's Awakening as a sequel to A Link to the Past.

That said, Oracle does give a couple nods to Link's Awakening, namely:

1) Link departs on a boat in the ending that's identical to the one he rides in the opening of Link's Awakening;
2) The art and graphic styles used in the Oracle games is ripped verbatim from Link's Awakening (this includes a number of character models and enemies)

Questions like these are the kind that the "Official" Timeline is supposed to answer. But since there are two different Timeline Theorys it depends on which side you choose to take.

Re: Is Link from Link's awakening the same guy as the one in the Oracle series?

Most of the Zelda games that are on the same system are usually linked together to imply that they're the same link.

NES = LoZ / AoL

GB = LA / OoX

N64 = OoT / MM

This, of 'course, is not always the case... Such as TWW's follow-up, in which transfers to the DS instead of the GC. It's strange how they made a follow-up of TWW so much later in the series.

Ugh this thread is bound to get too many biased LttP-LA people. Lex... can you atleast give an unbiased opinion?

What do you mean by progression?
Anyways, geography is about the same for both.

OoX-LA has almost triple the amount of exclusive enemies/characters that LttP-LA has.

OoX-LA has a boat which fits quite nicely to the story.

OoX-LA Zelda/Marin resemble eachother more than LttPs Zelda and Marin.

The fact that it never states LA Link had the Triforce but makes quotes refering to his "Power, Wisdom and Courage" which is the same as quotes in OoX. Not that the triforce quotes mean much. But it does make slightly more sense for OoX-LA.

There is no denying however that LA was the sequel to LttP before OoX came out.
Believe LttP-LA if you can't stand the idea of it ever changing. But I'd say OoX-LA definitly has developer intent as well.

I am one of the few who believes that it goes LttP->OoX->LA. Which is to say I agree with both sides of "LA comes after ____" and they both disagree with me.

Re: Is Link from Link's awakening the same guy as the one in the Oracle series?

Well, it's been a loooong time since I played an Oracle game, and that was only Seasons (Ages is the only Zelda at all I have yet to play) but unless I'm mistaken, the Link from those two games is pulled from where ever he is at the time into Labynna or Holodrum. What I've thought for a fairly long time is that the Link from aLttP is the same from LA and OoX. Now, which order they all go in, I could care less, as I havn't had the time to sit down and pick a timeline that I'm fond of yet, not that it matters though.
