Beware: Fake copies of Minish Cap

Hello everyone. Twice now I have tried to purchase TMC, and twice I've ended up getting counterfeit copies. The first time was from a random UK site that has since been shut down, the second was from an Amazon Marketplace Seller. I'm upset as each time I've gotten a few hours into the game before it deletes my save.

I searched the forums and didn't find anything, but found this site describing the difference between a fake and real copy.

A counterfeit GBA ring operating out of my car hole! Er, ebay! Cracked Rabbit Gaming.

Seeing as nothing has come up on the boards so far, I don't think this is that widespread a thing. Has anyone else received a bootlegged version?

How did you know they were counterfeit?

What's wrong with them? They work, right? Otherwise, the people who fake them wouldn't sell them.

They are very cheaply made, and prone to breaking, and they don't last half as long as normal games. Save files become corrupted easily, and they don't work alongside games [for example Pokemon, you cannot migrate Pokemon from other games.]

They work for a small amount of time, usually until the seller has had time to pack up and leave. You can usually tell their countefeit by the stickers or colour of the cart. The boxes almost always come flat packed, too.

I got a counterfiet version of Pokemon Fire Red, and found I couldn't migrate Pokemon from it, therefore it's a fake. The seller did refund my money though. Just please, don't buy fakes, they aren't worth it.

Re: Beware: Fake copies of Minish Cap

I had a copy that looked fake because the picture was different on the cartridge from an original PAL version plus the manual was also very thin and didn't have the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" logo on it either. The manual didn't even show any instructions in it just pictures. Other than that, the game worked perfectly and I never had any problems with loosing game saves.

Guess what, I brought it from eBay... yeah that figures.

^ I have a few of them, one of which is MC. The game works fine, but I suppose it depends on the person who has made the fake.

They are normally mass produced in factories very cheaply, not made single handedly by one person. Some games work fine, but it's really hit and miss with them. It depends how often and how much you play them, too. Not worth the risk if you ask me.

some of these games are also dependent on the console you play it on. I can't play my copy of pokemon emerald on my DS (its fake, but it works) without losing my save file and i can't play one of my GBC games on my GBA, because it is an american copy for the same reasons. I think its mostly just pokemon games, other games seem to work fine.

Re: Beware: Fake copies of Minish Cap

One time I bought a pokemon sapphire game and when I went to my friend's house and we tried to trade pokemon the save file on mine was deleted. Also when I tried to trade with pokemon colosseum it was deleted too. But back then I didn't know there were counterfeit games so there. I'm guessing that's why they made the cartridge go with it's version's color.Anyways never knew there were Minish Cap counterfeits mostly because there were more pokemon counterfeits. Sorry if it sounds off topic but oh well I guess.

Re: Beware: Fake copies of Minish Cap

Maybe I'm just crazy, but why would you buy the games from eBay? I always buy my games from used game stores or GameStops.

Otherwise, I'd go here for anything you'd want to get online, if you want something reputable.

This is what happens when you buy from shady dealers. What the hell ever happened to going to "stores"?

Sadly, I haven't been to a store that sells TMC, used or new. There are a few gamestops near me, but none of them ever seem to have it. I made a mistake the first time I purchased it, but though my luck would be better buying it from Amazon, but as I wrote I did not avail.

It's because some stores rarely ever stock the games you want, particularly if they are older games like gameboy advance. My store has about 5 of them at the most. Every store in town is the same. That's why people go on Ebay.

Re: Beware: Fake copies of Minish Cap

You can always find new DS games or used GBA games in flea markets if you look in the right places, but you never know where the games come from so I would say it's pretty risky. Although you never know where you might find games.

I hate buying games on ebay because you never know what you'll end up with, you could get a fake game. The problem is, the Minish Cap costs 25 dollars used at Gamestop.

Agreed. I once bought a game and it turned out to be the other version even though it had pics of the version I wanted. I assumed it was fake but it worked fine. Sent an email and money was refunded and returned the game. The Minish Cap is pricey even used, should be at least 20 or 18 bucks is what I think.
