Question Do any of you think that links awakening is under rated?

I thought this was the best handheld game ever and beat it 5 times. Do any of you think this to?

It was the first game that really got me into the Zelda series. It's brilliant and should be rated as one of the best!

Underated? Far from it. Now if you want to talk about underated Zelda games, then look no further at AoL and FS. AoL, some people find it to be very hard, so they just overlook it when it comes to playing it. FS, is somewhat hard to even start playing because it's mandatory for another person to play (unlike FSA). And if you look at playing FS at a large scale, it's pretty expensive. If you want the full experience (meaning four players), that means that your group has to pay of four GBAs, four GBA connection cords, four ALttP/FS cartridges, and at least eight AA Batteries just to play the game. Now I may be going a little drastic listing off the items, but there's no other game (in the series) that it's mandatory to purchase other parts in order to play the game.

Not really. A lot of Zelda fans hold Link's Awakening in high regards. And it's always considered one of the best GB/GBC games, so I don't see why people would think of it as underrated.

I think the Minish Cap and the Oracles are underrated though.

I've never considered it underrated. It's usually listed among fan favorites (mine included).

It's #3 on my todo list, after the oracle games. I'm not sure I'd say it's underrated though because everywhere I've seen already says it was really good

LA is one of my favorites. I rate it very highly, not so sure I would say "underrated" though.

98% of Zelda fans think Twilight Princess is the best thing to happen to the series ever. If you're one of the 2% who think TP is overrated, copy and paste this in your sig.

I'd say minnish cap is underrated. that's a fun game I really liked the kinstones. and the story was quite unique and interesting.

Considering that it takes place on an island, I think Link's Awakening could be beautiful if it was given the 3D treatment like OOT/MM/WW/TP. *sigh* It will never be remade that way though.

I like Link's Awakening better than the other handheld Zeldas. To me Minish Cap was way to easy and Oracle of Ages/Seasons didn't have a good storyline IMO. I know im gonna get flamed for that last sentence anyways. So seriously let your anger flow onto me, I don't care its the internet.

I prefer it over Phantom Hourglass.
I prefer it over Wind Waker.
I prefer it over Ocarina of Time.

This is THE best Zelda game ever. Tons of new game breaking features, too!

I find Link's Awakening to be the most underrated Zelda. Well,"underrated" may not be the word for it, but LA seems to be the most overshadowed Zelda. It hardly ever gets attention, and that's too bad since it is one of the better Zelda games. Fans and critics are quick to dub ALttP the best 2D Zelda, Ocarina of Time the best overall, or whatever, but Link's Awakening hardly ever gets the attention it deserves anymore. It seems that even Zelda II gets more spotlight, even if it is negative.

The way I see it: Link's Awakening is one of the greatest games of all time, the best handheld/2D Zelda, and maybe even the best written Zelda. A lot of Zeldas charming humor was first displayed in Link's Awakening, as well as the idea of fully fleshed-out sidequests, and the formula used for the handheld Zeldas afterword. So, in several senses, it is a pioneer. Not only that, but everything it did different, it did better. There is no Ganon, no Zelda, no Hyrule, and no Triforce; no destiny and no Master Sword. It's a simple story with great characters, excellent music (Searching for Your Sword, Overworld Theme, Tal Tal Heights, and Ballad of the Wind Fish rank high on the great themes of the Zelda series), and just a very lively world is really nothing more than a dream.

I'm replaying Link's Awakening right now, as well as Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. It's strange, but the 8-bit Gameboy game is superior to both in so many ways. I'm shocked that fans never accepted it to be at least the best 2D Zelda. Oh well, we all have our opinions, but I suggest you give Link's Awakening another go. You may feel the way I feel when it comes to the lack of attention LA gets.

Name them.

Other than a shift in the location, characters and storytelling, LA is one of the the most traditional Zelda games. There's not much that's terribly wrong with the game, it just plays like any other Zelda, and it's got that archaic campaign progression that most of the older titles had.

Oh, I forgot, one thing the game did suck at were the bosses. Dethl absolutely saved LA in that regard.

Very true. Link's Awakening, as far as progression, is very true to A Link to the Past. There were some innovations, like jumping, and the inclusion of fully fleshed-out sidequests, but the whole feel of the game was very different. While you mention the new location, characters and storytelling as a minor change, I think they gave LA its own identity. LA may play the very traditionally, but it feels completely different.

Now, as for being very traditional, I don't find it to be a flaw at all because it did things better. The puzzles felt more fast-paced and fun (Roc's Feather really makes traveling more fun), the overworld seemed to have more going on, the towns were more alive, and the dungeons were more creative and arguably more complex.

I liked the bosses in Link's Awakening. While not as good as ALttP's, Link's Awakening's bosses surely are better than the more recent Zelda games'. I just like the faster battles that actually require you to fight than to solve a mindless puzzle. But, yes, I agree that the boss battles are one of the less impressive segments in Link's Awakening.

I only mention it as a minor change because I don't like analyzing game's based on their mood or story. I consider those to be fluff, and never something that a game would be worse or revolutionary for.

In terms of 'feel', LA is only behind MM for the most original in terms of the series. Though that's partly because MM was completely whacked-out.

I don't mind a basic "brawl" boss if they're incredibly difficult and/or require you to utilize the most advanced combat mechanics of the game. But the reason why I prefer puzzle bosses so much is because outside of Ninja Gaiden and a few select final boss encounters, no game's made their "brawl" bosses that way. LA included.
