Just because Nintendo didn't develop the temple the way YOU wanted, you have the right to critcize it and call it their worst idea ever??

Sure that may be an opinion, but it's a selfish one

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

Now that I have the game I loved the Idea of the timed dungeon. I still strategized but with haste. It was so frantic I loved it. The phantoms are laughable though, I just run past them and they can't catch me.

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

For the record, the dungeon can be beaten without much difficulty when you are out of sand. Just make sure you have a couple potions on hand before you go in, and please follow the instructions on the cover of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (DON'T PANIC!)

I like to explore and re-explore, so I ran out of sand all the time. Here's some hints:

1. Use portable safe-zones whenever you can. Remember that you can also take them between rooms, and they will respawn.

2. Other pots also respawn. Use them to bump up your health when you need it.

3. Be sure to get heart containers when you're not in the temples. There's plenty to be found so it's not too hard.

4. Use the blue fairy to cut your damage in half. (Very handy for final boss as well, especially for another spoilery reason I won't mention here.)

5. When you *do* have sand, sometimes it's better to jump off a ledge than to get whacked by one of the phantoms. It's a cheap way to get away, and you have to get a feel for it to use it correctly, but it works!

6. DON'T PANIC! Carefully planned moves can easily make up for lack of sand. It only hurts you once per second, and if you think about it, a second is more than enough time to dash between safe zones. You'll really only end up losing health by moving crystals or force gems.

7. When you have time, redo the first half of the dungeon. Once you have all Link's tools, you'll be able to finish in record time.

If you just don't feel comfortable making Link suffer, then just make sure to collect as many treasure maps as you can get. You'll find sand all over.

Hope this helps.

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

Spoilers below only apply to the first two trips to the Ocean Temple.

I think my biggest issue with it is not the timed part. I enjoy a bit of a "race the clock" aspect to a game. Always have. I also enjoy the stealth parts, and love smacking away at the phantoms rear ends when I am within leaping distance of a safe zone.

The part I hate, and may indeed prevent me from finishing the game, is that you have to re-do everything in the Ocean Temple every time you leave. I hate having to do the same puzzles all over again, find the same darn keys, sneak past the same enemies, and find the same doorways all KNOWING that as soon as I beat it this time around, I will have to do it all over again just two dungeons later.

It's like getting 99% of the way through with a dungeon, then somebody accidentally turns off your game. You have to do it all over again, and it just sucks.

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

Okay, Desperado... On that note:

There are definite shortcuts that present themselves as you get further on in the temple. The mid-way portal is a good example, but there are some great shortcuts that come after it that allow you to rush through the dungeon with ease:

1. Bombchus make it so that you don't have to spend nearly as much time replacing the dang crystals.

2. You can find new treasure, but you don't have to re-find old treasure.

3. You will be able to 1-hit kill the phantoms later in the game. (Sweet revenge.) This simple change makes the temple relatively easy and a bit relaxing even.

That is something to put in spoiler tags :glare
And, I never ran out of sand, but I found the temple very fun. After I got the Phantom Sword, I went through the entire Temple, killing all the Phantoms, so I could get all those treasures that apeare

Heh. I didn't reveal the plot point, did I?

Plus, anyone who's in in a thread like this is *looking* for spoilers, don't you think?

Majora is diffrent. There the count down was part of the main story and you felt the pressure of it the whole 72 hours you had.

PH has only the temple as a countdown mechanisme and you don't feel much pressure behind except when time is literaly running out.

Actually, I feel a lot more pressure when I play the TotOK compared to MM... MM gave you like four hours to do things - more if you played the Inverted Song of Time -, and initially you only get like 10 minutes for the TotOK (actually, you don't get any time initially!), so theres a lot more pressure there - especially with whole Phantom thing and the fair distance between safe zones.

Personally, I feel more pressure when I know time is running out and there are invincible - not for long, it seems! - enemies chasing me than I do when I know I've got hours to do things!

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

A few of the Zelda games involve sneaking around without being seen or caught.

I don't mind a timed dungeon in the game, Majoras Mask being my favorite zelda game, im not one of those people who hate the 3 day thing. So im not against this dungeon.

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

I'm not one for being timed either and after I went back to that place for the third time I was like, "I'm gonna be back here a lot more aren't i!?" I understand that each time you defeat a boss or whatever you get more time but you've got to go further aswell and half the time I never make it and it gets reeeaalllly tedious for me!

You can't make it through? Are you serious? It's easy. EA and I have even perfected the art of completing the temple using 0 minutes and 0 seconds. We're working on a guide, but because we're lazy, you'll probably never see it. Either way, there is vastly more than enough time to complete the temple.

What? I beat it. I beat the entire game two weeks ago

And how can you beat it in 0 seconds?...

You get lots and lots of SoH pots. At one point, I too had 0:0 about halfway through the temple, but it didn't stay that way.

Re: The Ocean Sea dungeon in the worst idea ever

I liked the Temple. I was a bit annoyed by the lack of time, but really I only ran out of sand once, and survived with the help of potions. Finding enough sand from the ocean floor made it so much easier. Going back so many times was a bit too much, but the shortcuts made it so much easier I didn't really mind.

The place was stressful, but I ended up liking the challenge anyway. Running for your life and hiding from the Phantoms was fun Timed dungeons are something new, and I wouldn't mind seeing one again later.
