A Link to the Past - bottles

I'm currently at the first boss in the darkworld.

I'm not really very good at this game as I seem to not be fast enough to avoid attacks, and I've usually used up a fairy before I get to the bosses.

I was just wondering, how many bottles are available?

I bought the game second hand, so it came with no instrustion manual, and I was also wondering about Link's shield.. it seems to be up, and the arrows go straight through him. When I hold R down the arrows come through the shield half the time anyway.

Any help will be appreciated.

There are 4 Bottles that you can get, same as most Zelda games. Actually, ALttP is the game that started the bottle trend. Do you have the blue shield, the red shield or the mirror shield? All of them should be able to block arrows. Either your standing in the wrong position to block arrows, or you got a glitchy cart.

hmm.. I can't remember what sheild I have but It's the first one. Maybe i'm in the wrong position, but R is the correct command to use for it?

Sheild is automatically used when you aren't doing anything. Don't rely too much on fairies. They suck. When you need health use a potion. Look for heart pieces too so you have more health. Upgrade your sheild too so you can block more things.

Yes. Don't press anything to use the shield, that's your problem. Just face in the direction the projectile is coming from. Four bottles available, just like ZeldaGamer21 said.

Thanks. I think another one of the problems is the fact I spend too much time trying to kill enemies, rather than avoiding them.

Yes, sometimes it's best to avoid them and kill anyone in your way. Wll that's what I do anyway, it seems to work. ^^

By the way, you have the blue shield.

A tip with the first boss- Stay in the corner. then you can move out to shoot them with your arrows. Works for me. XD
