Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
In this thread, you can post glitches you know in any game boy Zelda game. However, before doing so, have a look at the rules for this thread:
When posting a glitch please post the following: - How to perform the glitch (if you are not quite sure how it happened give as much detail as possible). - What are the affects of the glitch? What does the glitch do? - Was the glitch helpful or dangerous to the game file? - Write a brief paragraph describing your thoughts on the glitch. Do you think it's a cool glitch, or was it just a stupid one? When replying to a glitch: - Describe your thoughts and/or your opinion on the glitch in great detail. Posts without any thought or explanation will be removed right away.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Link's Awakening (original):
-Press Select right as you are moving to the next screen. -You will jump across to the other side of the next screen, therefore passing obstacles easily. -It can be both. Mostly good. For example, if you get yourself into the mountains without the flippers, and fall down the hole that leads to the water cave, and save the game in midair, you'll be stuck there forever until you delete the file. But, you can also get to the final boss with nothing but a shield (can't beat it, though). It's harmless to the cartridge. -It's an awesome glitch, if you have the original version, you've probably already tried it. But if you haven't, do it. It's great fun, a ton of glitches are created from this. Oracle of Ages: -Go to the mailman's house in the past with the L2 sword and power bracelets. You can do a bunch of things to his empty bookshelves. Slash them to break them, or lift them with the power bracelets. Underneath are pressed switches and staircases. Going down a stair will reset the room, so you can get to breaking again. Pushing a piece of bookcase will turn it into a pot. And, if you go off the screen behind them, you'll arrive in Rafton's house. -Perfectly safe, can't ruin your file or cartridge. If you get stuck in Rafton's wall, you'll have to restart the game, though. -It's pretty fun, not much to it, but it's a fun little glitch to try out. -Find a place with a time warp spot or a ring of light. If it's a warp tile, activate it. Then lift a nearby bush or rock, bombs and Somaria blocks will work as well. Step onto the warp/ring of light and let go of the item. -Link will be in a funny pose when he travels through time. -Obviously, it's completely safe, you just continue playing normally. -It looks pretty funny, but it's not all that great. Try it next time you play. -You can also do the above glitch for other things. Try lifting a rock, standing on a piece of heart, and letting go. Or, create a block with the cane of somaria in an essence room, lift it, and walk up to the essence, and drop it. -In both of these cases, the item you were holding should be covering the one you're holding up. You'll probably see the edges of it, but most of it will be blocked. -Does nothing abnormal to the file. -It's really not that interesting. If you find yourself playing, try it out, but I wouldn't get the game out just to do the glitch. -Create a time warp and run up from the bottom, jumping just before you hit it. -With luck, Link will be stuck in his somersault position for the time travel. -No damage... -Again, not great, but something to try next time you play. -Go to Zora Village. Get up on the bottom edge of the island above the palace. Play the third harp song to go to the other time. Now get in the water and swim up toward the ring of light. -Your head will be stuck in the time platform thing while you're time travelling. -No damage -Again, not great, but something to try next time you play. |

I know lot's of LA glitches, they're fun. I think these are for the original gameboy version (It's gray and the bump on the back goes in). These are all very simple glitches, they are very easy to do.
1. If you ever buy a big item from the store (like the bow) in stead if shoplifting it, there is a way to get a discount. As soon as you purchase the item, you save. and quit. Since the money goes down slowly as the game count's every rupee, whatever amount of money remained when you saved will be there when you enter the game again. It won't drain your money when you come back in,either. This is a cool glitch and a helpful one. It is not dangerous either. 2. This is an easy way to erase all the memory from the game pack. My brothers were very angry when I found this one out. If you have the game boy on at the title screen and you yank out the game pack, it will delete all the save files. This is a very dangerous glitch. It is a bad thing to have happen. I found out this glitch the hard way. Don't do it, unless you just got the game or you are about to get rid of it. 3. This is simalier to the first glitch, but the other way around. If you open a chest which has money and save imediatly (sp), you will only get part of your money. This is a bad glitch. It isn't very dangerous. 4. If you take the toadstool to the witch and save while she is turning it into magic powder, you will have neither the toadstool or the powder. The pots in the witch's hut will not give you magic powder. The only way to get magic powder after that is to win it at the crane game, which I did for my little brother when he found this glitch. It is dangerous to do this glitch because you have to be good at the crane game to get your game back on track. 5. You can also skip the witch's hut entirely. If you win magic powder then you can go right into the first dungeon without getting the toadstool at all. This isn't dangerous, the only problem you might have is money drainage. 6. This isn't really a glitch, it's just fun to do. If you pick up an item from the store and bolt for the door, you will steal it. It isn't a glitch because there are effects from doing it. The store guy will kill you next time you visit the store, so don't buy secret medicine before shop lifting. Also, you will be known as thief. It's alot cheaper to get items this way. Those are the glitches I know. Someone else had found a website with alot of LA glitches.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
In Oracle of Ages- Postman's house shelves.
How to Preform: get a level 2 sword or higher and go to the postman's house and swipe at his shelves and they will break revealing pots and a secret exit. break the pots or whatever to reveal switches that seem to have no purpose and if you dare, pass through the exit. You'll end up frozen near the rent-a-raft. Affects: you'll end up frozen near the rent-a-raft Neither helpful or dangerous I think it's interesting, but terribly pointless. Unless the switches pushed in the right order triggers something special, but then it's an Easter Egg. I mean, you end up paralyzed on a guys roof, interesting but frustrating.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Dunno if this has already been posted, but it's something I came across last night as I was playing LA DX on my sister's GC GameBoy Player.
Link's Awakening DX Go under the bridge in Martha's Bay where the fisherman is fishing. In the dark spot of the bridge pilar, throw a bomb onto the ledge there (if you equip the power bracelet, you can even grab onto this ledge and pull it a brief second before you fall back into the water). You'll need the Roc's Feather equipped so you can jump up there. What happens is the bomb will act as if it's falling down a hole if done right. It might not have been a glitch so much more as me throwing it into the distance, but it was amusing the one time it happened. It's not helpful, or dangerous. Just a funny thing to see a bomb fall through "solid" objects. And my thoughts, well...I was amused. lol I couldn't do it more than just once, and last night was the first time it happened. I wouldn't mind doing it again, but if it was a glitch, it might not happen twice since the subsequent tries produced the bomb sitting on the ledge or falling into the water if I missed the mark.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
In Oracle of Seasons, talk to the person in the dam house near level 5 (i think its level 5) once youve beaten the game and he will claim to be impa, and will tell you that the dancer was really the OoS and that she is in great danger.
Funny cause its an old man telling you all this, doesnt mess up the game at all. |

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
If you play through LttP without saving or getting a game over screen, when you restart the game after completion you will be a pink bunny rabbit.
I haven't tried it, but my freind did, he had to leave his charger plugged into the SP overnight several times. Its not dangerous. Also, i think I may have a unique glitch: After I completed the riddle quest on my LttP, a question mark appeared next to my name and above the hearts at the file screen. It may be normal, I am unaware. Its placed in the spot a castle is after you beat the game. |

I have found a real LttP glitch this time though: In the Dark World, go to the shop where the Syrup Withes hut would be in the light world, go up to where the cyclops is, but don't do anything yet. After you've been on the screen with the cyclops, go right one screen, and dash into the tree. Bees with fly everywhere. now go back to the screen with the cyclops and, lo and behold, the cyclops has dissapeared entirely. :0 Ask if I wasn't clear enough. |

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
I have a hilarious one. In Link's Awakening, when the rooster is following you, set the power bracelet and the boomerang to the equipped items. Throw your boomerang, and pick up the rooster. The boomerang will float under you and follow you, allowing you to not be hit by enemies, but you can kill them still. Now, go to where Marin sing's her song where you got the rooster and the dog is. Do the trick, and hit the dog with the boomerang in the air. It will constantly follow you around running into the boomerang, and it won't die. Hilarious.

I'm not sure relly how it happened, but I'll try my best. I wait to coolect the figurines in MC, because I thought they were useless. After I beat the gamee I went and got all the figurines. Only problem is that I can't get the last one. It's not useful, but verry anoying. SOULD NOT BE DUPLICATED.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Here's a rather annoying glitch to pull when fighting the third form of Vaati. Wait until one of vaati's 'arms' is right next to the bottom of the platform (Leave JUST enough space so that you can still enter the arm as tiny link). Now strike it with the cane of pacci and enter the arm as tiny link. Kill the creatures in his arm then leave.
What does the glitch do? Well, Link will fall, spawn, fall, spawn, fall, spawn, fall, spawn, fall etc. I'm pretty sure this is the only place you can do it. Is the glitch dangerous? You'll have to turn the power off to get it to stop, but it doesn't do any permenant damage Really it's a rather pointless glitch. Though it does show that capcom's 'spawn in the last safe place' code doesn't work if 'the last safe place' is a hole.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Invisible Link in LA DX!
Now, It might only work on DX versions of the games. Also, I was using a gameboy advance sp, that may have had an effect. Finally, it was a second-hand game, so the previous owner may have done something weird to the cartrige. Any way, here's how: Push down on the walking pad. Then start walking diagonal. Now, let go of the down part of the walking pad and keep holding the other part that was causing link to walk diagonal. Then, still holding the left or right of the walking pad, press up to. Link will appear to be walking backward. Some weird effects: Link may appear to loose all but his head, if you use the power bracelets he will be in a weird pose, if you use the pegasus shoes he'll do something weird, he may appear to have the shield even if it isn't equipped, and if you use your sword you may see half a signpost. Anyways, charge your sword and perform a spin attack. Link will dissapear. If you jump you can still see his shadow and all the items are visible when used. While invisible, as soon as you enter or exit a building, you'll be visible. Is it harmful: I don't know, so use the glitch sparringly, it might do something dangerous to the game. Invisible Link is cool, and the other weird effects are entertaining, but not useful at all. Is it usef |

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Errm....I'm not exactly sure if this is a glitch or not, but if you start a new file in LA with the name ZELDA, the music will change into a cool tune. It's harmless to the game. I have the DX version though, so I don't know if it works on the original LA.

Lttp Glitches
In Link to the Past, there are a couple of incredibly stupid but entertaining glitches.
1. Digging Boomerang After you have the magic boomerang and the shovel, you can perform this glitch.2. Super Speed After you have the pegasus boots and the magic flute, you can get super speed. Go to Kakariko Village (or somewhere else in the light world where there are stairs, but I like Kakariko village the best) and stand at the bottom of the stairway next to the thief Blind's old hideout. Equip the magic flute and play it. As soon as the song is done, you have to act fast, because the bird is coming. Press and hold <R> until you start dashing up the stairs. The bird should catch you and take you away after you are about halfway up the stairs and take you to the warp screen. At the warp screen, do not select anything. Just press <B> to cancel the warp and go back to where you were before. You should still be standing on the stairs.3. Blue Shield This glitch works when you have the red shield (the one that deflects fireballs) and the Ether medallion. Go to the dark world and find one of those clam guys with the tongues that shoot out at you and steal things like rupees and bombs. Get right up next to him and wait for him to steal your shield. As soon as he takes your shield, use the Ether medallion to freeze him. Kill him with your sword after he is frozen and recover your shield. It will now be an awesome Ice-blue color instead of boring old red.4. Chicken Attack To make this glitch (I think it's a glitch, but I'm not sure) work, you need to kill a chicken (or cucco, whatever they call them). Burning them with the lantern works the best. When the storm of chickens comes, grab the chicken and hold it over your head. The chicken storm will disappear. As soon as you drop the chicken, though, the chicken storm will come again with renewed vengeance.5. Chicken Attack 2 Kill a chicken, just like in the last glitch. This time, though, kill the chicken in the outdoors and carry the chicken near a group of soldiers. Throw the chicken from off your head and run. The chicken storm will come down upon the soldiers and destroy them all.6. Invulnerability (at a price) I'm not exactly sure how this glitch works, but it's happened many times and it's really weird. When you go into Kakariko village for the very first time, there are two women pacing around their houses, and if you see them, they will call soldiers with pikes (big long spears with nasty tips) after you. Pick up a bush and then charge the soldier head on. Right when the soldier hits you, throw the bush. If you time it just right, the bush will fall from your hands and you will crouch in pain as the pike stabs you, and then... just sit there. Nothing else will happen. You will just sit there, crouched up, as the soldier charges back and forth in front of you, but he will cause you no harm. Hence, you are invincible, at the price of not being able to move yourself, not being able to use any items, and not being able to save the game and then quit.I have had A Link To The Past for about four years and I have beaten it about eighty times alltogether, so I know every single detail about it, and in my exploration, I have found a bunch of other glitches, none of which I can remember right now.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
The Minish Cap. One of my favourite zelda games, period, if not the favourite. Helpful glitches for all!
First up, Link's house, in the blacksmith room. You will need a sword and some bombs. Start tapping the lower wall until you hear the hollow ding of a bombable wall. Bomb it. Nothing happens, except when you go to tap the wall again, no sound will come. Re-enter the room to reset it. This glitch is useless, and does not have any harmful effects on your saves. Just a novel discovery. The "hollow" part of the wall should be around a third of the way from the left of the room. Next, Mt. Crenel's Base. Go to the bridge that is just before a cave, in between two ledges that you must use the mushroom to get across. You can use the Gust Jar to attract the mushroom to you from down here, meaning you do not have to go through the cave to get to it. This is one of those glitches where you feels a certain satisfaction performing. Obviously, it is very helpful, as it allows you to save time and effort. Anywhere with a mushroom on the other side of a gap/river. When you use the Gust Jar to attract the mushroom toward yourself, stand at the very tip of what you are standing on. When the mushroom is close to the end of the Jar, step off the edge towards it. The Gust Jar will catch the mushroom and fling you over the gap, when normally you would fall down after stepping any further. Useful and fun to do. Not damaging whatsoever. Temple of Droplets, Lilypad Ice Puzzle. When you are using the Lilypad in the Temple of Droplets, you will come across an extensive ice puzzle that you need to complete to pass a gate. However, you can get past the gate without doing the puzzle. Take the Lilypad to the left of the room, and position it right next to the ice where the switch is, but not touching the ice or the trick will not work. To test if you have set up the Lilypad correctly, use the Gust Jar to move directly up. If the Lilypad moves around the pillar and into the gate, you have it correct. Move directly down to the bottom wall. Do not worry if some obstructions at the bottom move your lilypad over, it will still be aligned properly. Now use the Gust Jar to propel you and the Lilypad up again, and stand on the right edge of the pad when you do so. When you are exactly south-west horizontal to the switch that lowers the gate, run to the switch and stand on it before the Lilypad reaches the gate. Stay there until the Lilypad floats past the gate, and then you can use the Lilypad past the gate without actually doing the puzzle! This trick is awesome. It technically isn't a glitch, more the result of poor dungeon planning, but it is all things good. Useful, fun, satisfying, undamaging, etc. Next time you are doing that dungeon, try it. If you have already done the dungeon by completing that puzzle, however, you can't do the trick, because the puzzle will already be done for you when you go there. You'll need to start a new file and play to that point to do it. The Scholar's house. When you go to get the second book, go inside the house and talk to the Scholar. It has to be the first time you have ever talked to him. After talking, go out of the house and back in, and talk to him again. He will say something dropped onto the ground behind him, the same as when you get the book he borrowed, but you will not have gotten the book yet! This is not necessarily useful, but it is fun to do. It isn't dangerous, but it also isn't beneficial. Whatever. Vaati's Wrath battle [Form III]. When you stand on top of the Minish Portal, you can never be damaged. Even if Vaati's Wrath goes right next to you and sweeps his arm right into your face, you will not feel a thing. This isn't really beneficial, however, as you cannot do anything while on the Portal, except shrink or jump off. The glitch is useless for gameplay, but fun to do. Vaati Transfigured battle [Form II]. There is a way with the Great Spin Attack that you can destroy the four red eyes without cloning. This is extremely hard and frustrating to do, but I have done it on several occasions, and basically you have to spin your blade so that it hits all four reds in one sweep. With any luck and speed, you will have hit the four of them quick enough to have damage registering on all of them at the same time, triggering Vaati to drop to the ground so that you can damage him. This does not damage your file, but be warned that it is extremely hard to do. One of the battles I used this glitch in for this form took over 20 minutes for me to do. Mazaal battle [Boss 3]. If you go behind Mazaal, he cannot hurt you. Even if he goes to pound you, his hand won't go behind his head, and you can remain safe there. I haven't actually tested if you can do Mazaal any damage from the back, for example shooting his hands from behind, but it is worth a look at. From what I do know, it is fun, satisfying, undamaging and the like. Just not too sure about the beneficial part. Big Green ChuChu battle [Boss 1]. I have actually gotten to the third section of the battle and NOT have the boss continuously jump on me. I am not entirely sure exactly how I did it, but I have a hunch that it is either how much you damage him before that part, or where you are standing when that part of the battle occurs. If you want to see it, you can watch a video of the battle by going Here and clicking on the Video Boss link under Big Green ChuChu. Fortunately for me, when I was recording videos for that section was the same time I accidentally triggered the glitch. Watch in amazement how I do the third battle segment without having to dodge quick jumps! Note that It wasn't me who added the text flashes, nor did I authorise it. Meh. With pretty much all non-bosses, you can roll through them. This is extremely useful for some more annoying or lengthy enemies to fight, such as Darknuts or Gibdos. If a Gibdo grabs you, you lose insane amounts of health before it lets go. This glitch is extremely useful here. With Darknuts, where it is hard to get past defences, just roll through them and slash their back before they turn around. Creatively used, this glitch can widely speed up gameplay and allow you to get past more difficult areas more easily. Not dangerous, either. There is also a bad glitch where occasionally, your hits will not register as they should. I have slashed things, had the sword go right through them and have nothing happened. Hell, I have even been hit when attacking somebody else. Not necessarily dangerous to the file, but damned annoying when it occurs. Not too sure how this is triggered, or else I would say how to avoid it, but I am pretty sure it is random, where the game fails to calculate your move quick enough or something. A Fairy Cave. Before you go into a cave that has a pool and three fairies, equip an empty bottle. Go inside and stand around the middle. When two fairies are withing catching range, sweep the bottle. AFTER Link holds up the Bottle, but BEFORE the text appears, press the button again quickly. If done correctly, you will have captured two fairies in your bottle. Useful and undamaging. And cool, to boot. For now, that is all I can think of. I will post later if I remember any more I have found, I am sure I know a few more.

Re: Official Handheld Zelda Glitch Thread
Over the Rainbow
Here is a glitch I found out while waiting for my ride from the driving range. If you go to where Turtle Rock is located in the Light World, lift the large black boulder, kill some of the little enemies with the quake, use the flute while facing left and use the Pegasus Boots before the bird picks you up so you end up running in the direction the bird is coming from. When the map comes up, press 'B' to go back. If you start moving, then you will notice that link will be walking strange. Do not run into a wall, as it might make you bounce between two infinitely. Walk onto the rope ladder and then step off. Link will then run VERY fast. Walk over to the right of the rock, being careful to not get hit by the enemies, and press down and right at the walled cliffs which face south. Link will end up jumping off and walking on the clouds.

Alttp glitches continued
I just remembered another really stupid glitch.
7. Perpetually Repeating Boomerang To do this glitch, you need a boomerang and the pegasus shoes. You can do it with the normal boomerang, but it's much more satisfactory if done with the magic boomerang. You need a space with lots of empty horizontal space. One of the roads in the Kakariko Village works, you could probably do it in the desert, too. go to the far left of your screen, so that there is just enough room for you to throw your boomerang. Throw your boomerang, then immediately after it leaves your hand, turn the opposite direction and ram on the <R> button to dash away. Keep running until you hit something on the other side of the area. You should hear your boomerang coming up behind you, but when it gets to you, it won't return. It will keep going, and about a half-second later, it will pass you again, without returning. Now you can wander around the area, and the boomerang will follow you at your y-coordinate, but never return. If you are standing in front of grass or bushes, every other time the boomerang passes you, it will cut them down like a weed-eater. You can't stun enemies, though, and there is never anything in the bushes (Note: To cut down the bushes, you need the magical boomerang.), but it is a very fun glitch.
