Have you guys done this before?

I´m playing Ocarina of Time 3D Master Quest, and I just realized that the castle gate can be opened. Have you guys done this before?

I'm pretty sure you can do that on the N64 version as well...?

I can't remember, so I could be wrong on that.

Yeah, if you give the guard ten rupees he'll open the gate for you, in all versions of the game.

I think the guard will do that after the first time you visit. That and he says you must keep it a secret from everyone.

Sneak inside , fail (i.e. get caught lol) and then talk to him and he'll be cool. After Zelda flees the castle and you get the OOT, he is ...less anxious to let you into the castle.

Yeah, it can be done in all the versions of the game too. Just for 10 rupees..

But yeah, you could always pay him.
I used the vines though.

The guard doesn't offer to open it until you get caught after getting the egg from Malon. So you would have already used the vines at least twice.

Really? I believe I was able to make him open the gate without even being aware that there were vines back then... Oh well must have forgotten. =/

Oh well, yeah I'm aware of that trick, but why pay when you can just take the vines? I do remember they were pretty annoying to climb back at the N64 version. The 3DS version is much better.

In the N64 version you had to line it up perfectly or you'd drop off infinity until you let go..

No, you probably remembered correctly. After further testing, it's possible to get the guard to open it without ever climbing the vines. To get Malon to show up without having to get caught is to simply re-enter the area (tested at nighttime). After getting the egg, pester the gate guard twice and he will offer to open it (daytime). It's possible to only having to talk to him once if you talked to any other guard (even a Kakariko Village one), or get caught.

Yup. You can bribe the guard for ten rupees in the N64 version. I've done it many times.

The gate could be opened in the N64 and normal version as well, not just the Master Quest version. I think you had to have the egg first and then talk to the guard, who you could bribe with 10 rupees to open the gate. But...I always thought "why bother, you can just climb over the gate and not waste any of that money." *shrug* I suppose it's up to personal preference whichever route a person takes. Though it was nice that Nintendo included the guard bribing route as an alternative, though.

i always knew that it was possible, but i just never figured it out

With all the times I've played that game, it never once occured to me to talk to the guard.

Thats what I love about Zelda Games no matter how many times you've played them, you always discover something new you never noticed or found before.
