Oracle of Ages cartridge issues.

Hey guys, I have sort of a technical question.

Over the years I've been collecting all of the Zelda games and thanks to Ocarina of Time 3D, I've been going through and finishing all of the games I never finished. I just finished up Link's Awakening for the first time and now I want to move on to Oracle of Ages and Seasons.

Here is the problem. I bought both Ages and Seasons used at a second hand shop several years ago and never touched them. I popped in Seasons and everything is fine and I started playing. However, when I popped in Ages to start playing it, I noticed something strange. All three save files are not blank and the names are filled with asterisk (*******). If I go into one, it asks me to start a new game. After I enter my name, it just simply returns to the file selection screen and never changed the file nor started a new game.

I tried using a different file and deleting all three of them and nothing happens. When I name a new file it always loops back to the file select screen and all three files still have asterisks as the names. I am assuming that my cartridge is screwed up but it seems to be some memory issue.

Does anybody know if changing the battery in the cart would remedy this at all? Anybody know a work-around that would get the game working again? I'd really hate to track down and buy another copy of this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

looks like BEN exist in handheld mode as well....

Now on to your problem. Your game is probably broken. You can try give it someone that might fix your game, but I would just recommend just to buy a new one, even though you did not want that.

Somebody might have screwed up the cartridge with a gameshark/action replay, or (more likely) the game save battery had a problem and died. You could try soldering in a new battery, or buy a new copy of the game.

It looks like a dead battery or someone cheated on it. If you can replace the battery then do it. That should fix the problem.

If you got them used, then I have to ask: is the cartridge transparent? I've actually seen several bootleg seasons/ages cartridges. If the cartridge is gray or black, then it's a bootleg and therefore might have issues.

No, it is actually transparent so I'm pretty sure it isn't a bootleg.

I guess I can try replacing the battery inside. I'll have to get a funky screwdriver and a soldering iron though.

Thanks guys!

Re: Oracle of Ages cartridge issues.

Hey I have the same issue too. Did replacing the battery fix it? I've been trying to find out more about the this and apparently its happened to other people too. Most things I've read say that the cartridge is fried or corrupted or someone used cheats on it. Usually when a battery goes dead on a Pokemon game it just wont save but it will at least start.
