OoT 3D better than OoT 64

When i got Ocarina of Time 3D and completly fell in love with the same game (differences aside) that amazed me on the Nintendo 64. I could'nt find out if I found it better than the 64 version or not. I found the boss battles easier and the water temple did'nt present the same challenge as before (for better or for worse?) and of coures the visuals are alot better and ITS IN 3D!!!! I want to hear your thoughts and opinions.

I like more the 3DS version because the graphics, boss battle mode and it has the mirrored version of MQ but it still has the classic stuff like all the fun glitches

I like them equally. The N64 version was the original, and had this charm the 3DS version didn't have. The 3DS version had better visuals and controls, as well as the Boss Challenge.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

Its like... you marry the hottest woman on the planet... and 13 years later... she is got some amazing surgery which makes her look even better than before ... even if she is 13 years older... however as hot as she might look (never better!) her impression on you is not as "fresh and new" as the first time you saw her... so here is the conflict...

And, as you can never go to the past it will never be "the same" and in the end you realize that you are also not "the same" you where 13 years ago... so its complicated ...

But if we step outside all this nostalgic world inside our heads and look at the games, cold and technically, you'll notice than OOT 3Ds has so many improvements...

So if the question is which one is better I'd say: OOT 3DS
But if the real question behind the previous one where, which one is "bigger": I'd say OOT 64

Same game.

Improved graphics with extra game modes, and an improved interface.

Pure logic says OoT 3D is the better game.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

When I try in vain to pry the nostalgia goggles off my head, and am able to peek out the sides a bit, I can conclude that it is essentially the same game.

However, the N64 version is special to me in more ways then just the great core game. When I look at the flawed (If not well aged) graphics I am flooded with great past memories that came about because of the existence of this game.

So which is better...technically the 3DS version is superior.

Though in my heart I will never accept it as an equal.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

I am a very nostalgic person. But in this case i don't get nostalgic over the old N64 graphics. OoT 3D is OoT in every way and makes me feel nostalgic over and over again.
In my opinion its better that OoT N64.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

The 3D-version fixed almost everything that disturbed me in the N64-version. In that way it's better. On the other hand, it's too easy. Dark Link for example used to be hard to beat with only the master sword. This time I beated him in 2 minutes. The real challenge is gone.

And I really don't like the sheikah-stones. Zelda is'nt supposed to be that easy.

I never played the orginal, so OoT 3D has really hit me. There's just a certain charm about it that is absent in other Zelda games. I guess the charm I am seeing is the charm that you guys seen all those years ago, its amazing.

They're optional. If you don't like them, don't use them. Or just play MQ, there are no Sheikah Stones there.

Sheikah Stones are %100 optional. They're for Nintendo's younger n00bish audience. I like the inclusion of hints in Nintendo games so the developers wouldn't have to worry about the game being too hard. They can make it as hard as they want, giving us difficulty, and the casuals a chance to beat the game.

When I play OoT, it feels like all of the elements of the game mutually affect each other and add extra layers of possibility to everything else. Like how the Ocarina achieves functional utility though music, which adds 'soul' to the game whenever you do something with it, but also opens up the possibility of freely playing tunes that aren't actually listed as 'official' songs. Everything in the game has the potential to be used in some unorthadox way, there are tons of things clueing you in to these possbilities but you're never quite sure what will actually work until you try it. You just end up with the impression that something meaningful could exist in a way you never expected and that all the rules of the game are mearly conventions designed to blind you to possibilities hidden in plain sight.

I actually got pissed off when I first realized why it was there. And I could see in my mind how kids went there 3 seconds after they get stuck over and over again. That's not braintraining! They have to complete everything by themselves to actually learn something, and to fully appreciate the game.

That's not the point. Making a game easy just like that disturbes me.
A good Zelda-game is hard. A bad one is easy. OoT and PH... That says everything.

But it's nice to hear that there is no help in the MQ.

But if they're too stuck and really don't know what to do, they might just give up on the game and not bother playing any more, let alone buy future Zelda games. That's probably why Nintendo included the stones.

Did the kids back in 98 just give up? Nope. And we did'nt even have walkthroughs and such. No help at all.

If a kid could beat it without any hints back then, a kid should be able to do the same today.

But, it's another thing to put it down for a while and continue to try later.

I begin to wonder if nintendo thinks that the kids are getting more stupid.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

Bunch of dunderheads cant even play a bloody game anymore without feeling it being too hard. How many threads have i read and posted in about kids playing Legend of Zelda or A Link To The Past and they all say "its too damn hard! wahhh!" THATS WHAT MILD DIFFICULTY WAS IN MY DAY!

Anyway for the topic on hand....Im a bit torn here. Mostly because my original OoT copy is uncensored. Meaning the blood Ganondorf coughs up is red, the Fire Temple's music is the chanting, the insignia is the crescent moon, etc. If all of that was still in the 3DS version, i would actually say its superior. But alas. That is probably the only thing holding it back.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

On the whole, I prefer Ocarina of Time 3D. The text is faster, the animations are smooth and the visuals are crisp and wonderful.

However, it's not a perfect upgrade - there are still one or two things that I prefer about the original. I do believe that the newer version has been dumbed down slightly. I'm not just referring to the Sheikah Stones here, which after all were optional.

Here's one example. In the original version, during the Biggoron subquest you were often not actually told explicitly where to go in order to advance. For instance, when the Cucco Lady gave you Cojiro, she mentioned her brother, but did not say where he might be found. However, the game gave you a hint about his whereabouts - Cojiro gives a call whenever you enter the Lost Woods.

In Ocarina of Time 3D, however, that hint system is eliminated altogether. Cojiro no longer calls when you enter the Lost Woods, because the game simply outright tells you to "go to the location marked on your map." For me I suppose that's not such a problem, given that I know OoT like the back of my own hand these days, but I do think that it would dampen the challenge and that wonderful sense of adventure a bit for a newcomer to the game.

Re: OoT 3D better than OoT 64

I have not played the game but I have watched a few videos on it to see how it looks. The game looks wonderful, good job to Nintendo. ^_^ The added master quest is awesome as well, although I don't like how they mirrored the world for it. Mirrored worlds feel to unnatural. I feel the change was unnecessary.

I do not like the run animations they changed to. I know its kind of a nit pick, but I really liked the old animations. The new ones look weird. This wont really affect anyone who hasn't played the old N64 version much. This is more of a personal thing.

Overall I prefer the old N64 version due to nostalgia.
