Thanks, Aralith.
I'm writing out the third chapter now. (But I'm starting to enjoy it less and less for some reason. Maybe I need to take a break from it...)
Anyways:
Here's some tips for writers:
> Don't break the fourth-wall
> Space out paragraphs. Readers don't like a huge block of words.
> Develop your characters. Just give them the basics: Goals, likes, dislikes, hobbies and the characters will handle the rest.
> Describe the settings and the characters. Not everyone is going to know who Tidus, Link, or Mario is. No one is gong to know what Epona looks like (Yeah, she's a horse, but not all horses are the same)or what the Temple of Time looks like.
> Stay in character. Unless it's a paradoy or a big joking story, don't make Pit be some angsty emo fallen angel if he's really a cheerful, determined person.
A BIG TIP: LISTEN TO YOUR CRITICS! Not all are going to say: "Yay! You are great! Continue, please!" Some are going to point out every last flaw.
In most cases, these critics wants you to improve your work.
Yes, there are critics who will neve be pleased, but generally, most want to help you.
I want to mention something: A site called Anti-Shurtugal is a really good site for beginning writers.
http://www.anti-shurtugal.com/writing.htm
It basically lists out all the things
Eragon and
Eldest screwed up on, but the tips are very helpful. I've learned a thing or two about writing with this site.
