I have an idea for a Zelda fanfic (odd since I normally don't like fanfic writing). However, I was thinking of a more sci-fi/fantasy like setting (the closet I can compare the technology to is FFXII), and I wanted to make the character of Link to be (initially) a bit of a prick, rather than his kind and helpful norm. Furthermore it features a diffrent government than Hyrule's traditional monarchy, and it probably won't have Ganon. Since my story has so little in common with Zelda, I was wondering if I should just go ahead and change a few names to make it a completely independent story.

Hrm.... I suppose the only question you would have to ask yourself is how much publicity you want. Throwing in the Zelda moniker automatically will grant you more exposure, since people here are less likely to read something original than a fan fic. My opinion is that it isn't a terribly bad thing to turn the Zelda universe on it's head, to give a fresh perspective on characters and the world in which they live. My vote would be to keep it Zelda-themed, but with your unique additions.

Just no more Zelda and Link in high school stories...please god....

Hola, everyone! This group has been kinda quiet lately, but I thought I would pass on a bit of news. I have been somewhat promoted, ZU style, and am now one of the teachers in the writing school!

What does anyone think of this prologue?


'Ever wondered what it’d be like running for your life from a monster? Think it would be exhilarating? Exciting? Well, let me tell you- it’s none of the above. Believe me- I’ve run from a lot of monsters over the years. It’s terrifying. Terrifying and very exhausting.

That’s how I felt on the night two of my comrades and I had been sent to Yale University to get a book. Sounds simple, right? Well, what if that book was under tight lock and key? What about that crazy sorceress coming after us? …Well, Azeala Oria is always after us. She’s your cliché ‘bent on destroying and enslaving the universe’ magic wielder.

It’s not like we don’t have ‘magic’ of our own. Don (a tall, black haired kid who I hate with every atom in my body), Mark (a shorter, redheaded fellow) and I (a clever girl with long, brown hair) have abilities. They aren’t unique; where we’re from, everybody has ‘em. I can control water. Don can instantaneously produce flames with all properties possible, and Mark can bend the air to his will. Well, any gas, that is.

That’s us- the Master Element Keepers. Like I said, everyone where I’m from can control an element. Us, we are the most powerful. But…

I’m babbling. Let’s start this story just a few minutes before I started to run for my life… and a few hours before we started a global quest…'
