That sounds like a good idea. I find myself thinking of future chapters. I have the ending already in my mind, but I can't bridge the gap between the 3rd chapter and the second, where monsters have attacked Mabe village. I think i might be able to sort of merge them. Thechapter starts somewhere else, but then goes on to explain about the attack. Anybody got any better suggestions?

That's quite the gap you have there and since you already have began posting the chapters you need the publish them in order, as you wrote.

When I end up in positions such as these there is only one thing to do - force write. (No it has nothing to do with Star Wars) You have to force yourself to write this chapter or chapters. Once you have them written, it does not matter if they are bad, at least you have something to work from and it is easier for you to notice the flaws and what needs to be done to connect the chapters to the ideas you have in your head.

I know it's hard, as a writer you encounter this kind of situation far to often and I find the above method to work and it's very usable when you need to force finish a fanfiction piece.

A tip for everyone who cares:
The largest trap when writing fanfiction is length, most longer fanfiction pieces remained unfinished because the author looses interest or writers block. My tip is to write short arcs that strings together into a larger piece, then if you loose interest you could end it after a arc is completed and still make your readers satisfied and have a natural place to start of if you want to pick it up again.

Too bad there's no way to tap into the Force from Star Wars, maybe it could help.

To Zeldafreak: Maybe you could have Link tell the events of the gap as a story to another person. Basically fill in the gap with a flashback. That way you could fill the gap without breaking continuity.
By the way, thanks for your advice, I hadn't considered him going missing.

I like the "presumed dead" idea myself. He thinks he's gone, but then shows up years later, grown up a bit, and perhaps has become a criminal himself? That would surely cause some chaos. Or maybe a nasty plot twist, in that the story's main antagonist ends up being the guys kid.

If you guy have been reading my Fires of Prometheus story; you'll know that they are going to flush their assassination target out by pretending to hire him. They then will kill him once he shows up to give them the computer data he stole. However, I have no idea how to bind this together. I originally had it that one of the group would follow the guy around and watch him steal the data, but I am unsatisfied with the partial chapter I wrote describing it. However, I feel it would be really stupid to skip right to the assassination without seeing him actually steal it.

But that would seed doubt in the reader -- did he really take it, or is this all a larger ploy to get rid of him? Sometimes mystery and intrigue paints better pictures than seeing the actual action.

Just a thought.

I know but you mean, but this guy is a minor character anyway. I really don't see the point in setting up all this mystery for a character that will only be in the story for a few chapters.

The real reason I intended for someone to follow him is because the character who was following him would have an introspective moment. The fact that she is following him is really just an excuse for her to muse about her past (because the area she is following him through reminds her of her crime ridden homeworld, which launches a explanation of her past). So honestly the action going on really isn't important.

So, I can't decide if I should include this sequence, or if I should explain her past in a different way.

Also, he has to steal the data, because it provides background information.

M'kay, gotcha. Sounds interesting, but I'm not sure what help I can be if I'm not "in the know" with all the little details, as I haven't read it.

But, with the info given, it would make sense for them to want to make sure he had the actual thing they were looking for (if indeed the data is what they were after and wanted a patsy to take the fall, and then kill him to erase evidence of their involvement) and so they would shadow him. But at the same time, they wouldn't want to get caught at the crime scene, so would probably wait outside the location where he was taking it from and then act from there. And then she would follow him to ensure he went to the set point for the exchange and didn't run.

I suppose my thoughts would really all depend on one thing: why do they want him dead anyway? Is he just a name and a number, as in are they "for-hire", or have they personally selected him for liquidation? And is this data he is carrying relevant to his demise, or just a set up to lure him out?
