Signature/Small Work Showcase [V.IV]: Long Live Pterodactyls!

Wow. I got a lot more out of Paint.NET then I thought I could. Still nowhere near the quality of GIMP, but alas, my school internet won't let me download GIMP at a decent speed at the moment.

Here we go, new signature hot off the press.

Wacky placement, but the background is cool - looks very "icey".

just a standard monochromatic abstract background with video game image to one side and text in the opposite corner signature. Extremely common and not especially noteworthy.

I also need to learn how to use C4Ds

no you don't

in my opinion "c4ds" are incredibly tacky, although they can be tastefully used
try making your own effects rather than pasting in someone else's abstracts

I have never really used C4D's. It's a advanced thing really you really need to focus on bushes and start on some smudging.

Well, I like the effect C4Ds that hardly show, but add a great over-effect.

I can smudge/use brushes well; but perhaps I do need some work.

GreatBayDeku: Ooh. Very nice. The left 80% of the image is very empty, though.

Looks pretty low quality to me. better stock ftw.

The fractal needs to be there, but it also looks . . . messy. Maybe try some diffrent ones, it's only nessecary for some texture but the white splatter bits on the left are somewhat distracting and the ghostly blobs over here more so. Maybe some very very light clipping masks or something instead.

Nice and simple. I like it. Although, the smudging could also follow the direction that her hair and the fractals/effects are going.

You know what I like most about this? The colour of the BG. I love vibrant stuff. I'm not sure I like the image itself, but it's a request, that's not really your doing. I don't think the drop-shadow is necessary. Otherwise, I dig, man.

I like the blue theme, though the contrast for me is kinda harsh. I don't think I'm for the smudging either, maybe try doing that a little more, or leave it out altogether? I love the bright blue and the placement of the image (:

Alright, alright, so I'm making that Cody person a new sig and he wanted it based on KH. I'm not fond of or used to using images given to me, but I'm working with it. Cody was all oh, go get it critiqued lol, and I'm like, **** you slave-driving bastard.

Too busy? Probably messed up the "flow" (I've only JUST learnt about that, so I'm still getting used to it), too much colour? Hm? And I'll resize the top one later, eh xD

The second one is my favorite.

And as for criticism, I think there's too much pentooling, I mean the ones going over his face. Other than that, the pentooling fits it well. The gradient map that goes over the render is a bit distracting as well. Other than those two things, it is very pleasing to look at. Love the vectors and the overall feel of the signature.

The first looks better, it goes better with the whole sig feel. The random pentooling is "ppfftt" no good, it might work if you didn't cover his face. And instead of having that rainbow gradient over him maybe make it a saturation thing instead of color, cause, even though it fits the entire sig, it doesn't work on that.

Thanks, guys, for your feedback! Speaking with that webmaster person, he told me he preferred the first of the two so I stuck with that. Got rid of the pentool lines and desaturated the streak through the render guy. Also got rid of the second faded out text behind his name, and made the main text a bit bigger:

Ignotus: I like it—good smudging. The blue light-thingies are kind of annoying, though.

Mauro: Good. Kind of monotone.

Liah: It's alright, but the... pentooling is a bit distracting. (And the newer one actually seems a bit empty.)
