Calling all Graphic Artists! come on in

Hey there!


I know I'm not a graphic artist, however, it saddens me that the SoI has been dead for the past while. If there is anything I was always proud of on ZU, it was the number of active talented Graphic artists we have here.

So, to see the SoI like this, and a lot of our artists just ... disappear, become inactive, or completely unispired is something that I feel we should work on. ZU has always been a powerhouse of emerging graphic artists and I want to see the place flourish again.

So, calling all those whom I have always been aware of as fantastic graphic artists: like Ed, Yams, Dom, Quantumplation, Rheks, frozen and more and more and more!


Here, I want you to discuss the possibility of setting up a

ZU Graphic Artists Alliance

That is my suggestion for a name for it; naturally, you can change it if you see fit.

I want you to nominate a leader from amongst you, and start discussing ways of how you can bring this place back from inactivity. Suggestions for new activities, competitions and such and such.



Now, wHO is up for it?

Who exactly are we allying with?

Each other, I think. I mean, we have section-dedicated mods and a secret forum -- we could make a day of it: Encouraging new talent and stuff?

I mean, the reason this has always been hard to organize is because it was abandoned a couple of weeks after being made by its visionary, and we've been trying to keep it going as it stood. I mean -- we have the potential to completely rearrange the forums that are here, what they do and how they work to make it better suit those who are still left.

Advanced critique thread,s graphics question and answers, a less formal teaching system whatever -- I think now we're asking the people who still use this place what can be done to make it a thousand times better.

Sign me up. Most know my art, and if not, I'll give my art. :O

There are so many graphic artists who do not post anymore, or create , or share their work as before. There are many who almost just ... abandoned their beautiful artistry altogether ._.

Why is that?

I am not doing this from a mod point of view. This has nOTHing to do with mod-stuff. It is just me not wanting to see the graphic area so dead when I KNOW there is so much talent for it to stay, not just alive, but VIBRANTLY so ^____^

This is something in the hands of graphic artists themselves.

Do tHEY want to see this place dead?
Do they want to revive it?
If they do, then it's time to do so, and all encuragement will be given.

Someone explain about this whole "Graphic School/teaching" thing. And *IS* it dead? and if so, for how long? and why?

Why is no one willing to provide answers? ;-;

WHY is it dead?
and IS there any teaching happening, AT all?

Basically, since the Graphics Schools were pretty much dead, with no/barely any active teachers or homerooms, Pani decided to start it fresh by removing all of the Graphics Teachers and telling them that the ones who still want to be a teacher can just PM her to get it back. Dom decided that he refused to "bow down" to Pani, and kickbanned her from all of the IRC channels while complaining about it in unrelated threads.

Asia, no one wants to learn >_> All the active artists are teachers themselves, with no one to teach them because they want to be the ones teaching.

Right, okay, one second.


So, most graphic artists are just teachers with no one to teach?

Hmm.. this doesn't explain deletion of teachers positions. The thing I *CAN* understand is if the graphics school as a WHOLE got purged, if it sees no activity and no one is interested.



And hey, if no one is willing to learn in a "I will not be subservient as a "student" to another graphic artist", maybe whatthis place needs is less "teaching" and more COLLABORATION between the artists?

I'm up for this if needed, can't promise I'll be active but I'll try. This place seriously needs to be resuscitated :P

I haven't really seen much of the SoI recently, though I'm guessing perhaps it could be due to more community based events occurring such as the podcast, and as a result this place doesn't get as much attention as it used to, which is understandable. Other than that, either the novelty has worn off or people are busy? No idea xD

I thought the whole graphics school shebang was a great idea, though it just didn't seem to work 100% imo. This is where I think your collaboration idea would be good to try, at least it's something different and more people might be interested this way. It's worth a shot if others agree as well.

When it was active it was fun and full of life, now you're lucky to see more than a few posts a day, so it seems. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would love to see this place active again - this is where it starts.

To be honest I don't know what actually needs to happen to get this forum rolling again, but you simply starting this has and will help out a lot, definitely. We just need other peoples' opinions (and people who are good at spitting out ideas :P)

I'd be willing to be taught. I mean.. I have practiced graphic art for a few years on my own, but compared to the other graphic artists, I'm not very good. xD

So, I can be taught! :3

As for the actual topic: I think the SoI died, because people just got lazy and/or uninspired. It's kind of like (to me, at least), that if I didn't feel like making a graphic, or any of the sort, I wasn't going to. I think we should do what we said we're gonna do, even if we don't feel like doing it. You know what I mean? Maybe? xD

Maybe it's not that SoI that needs flare, but rather the members that need to change the way they do things when participating in anything that is in the SoI.. if that made any sense.

I can see that the SoI already has plenty of awesome artists, with a lot of competitions (maybe a few more competitions can be thought up), but maybe we need more enthusiasm from the people who take part. I find that any place filled with enthusiastic, hard working, and selfless people, is quite attractive.

Does anyone know what I'm trying to say? xD

I agree 100%

In a way it's like dancing at a disco without music atm. There's no enthusiasm therefore people don't feel the need/inspiration to do anything. If this changes, I'm sure the activity rate will too. We just need to work together to make this happen.

I'll offer to be leader as well, although I'm not expecting to really be wanted. But still, I'm a graphics artist at ZU and am willing to show my pride for this group. Too bad I deleted the social group I made for it...

Sorry if I repeat what others have already stated, but I, too, think one of the greatest ways to increase participation and self-perpetuating graphical bliss is to host all kinds of events and contests; weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or yearly. Seasonal themes are great, as well as game or member anniversaries and perhaps the occasional non-forum site contributions for, say, the main page, mods willing.

That said, we would need someone who has both the time and the gumption to manage the group. This person would be in charge of coordinating said events, assigning particular sections or expertises to certain party members to sub-manage, and just being a cheerleader of sorts. Having positivity and determination at the helm is the first key to a successful project. That's what I learned when I started managing my RP social group.

If you rely too much on people en masse to keep it going themselves, they can easily lose interest and become bored. We are like sheep dogs - if you don't give us sheep to round up, we're gonna go find some somewhere else and possibly terrorize them.

On top of that we need to bring in not only those who are talented, but also those who might not be. Stick figures are not necessarily attractive nor artistic , but at the same time the more active the thread, the more traffic you get. Total participation is what we need; AKA peer pressure and friendly competition.

Anyhoo that's my two bits for now. And if you, Ranny, think you're up to the challenge, you'll get my support.

Oh, I'm up to it! I have some experience in leadership, I might point out, so I'm definitely prepared! I thank you greatly for your support. :]
