I don't think it looks all that bad The background is awesome and I love the colors. Maybe the border could be changed, but I think it looks great otherwise.

I just adjusted the colors slightly. I prefer it.

Pretty much, you take two similar black rectangles, and put a transparent black and white gradient on. What are you having problems with?

No, you have to use the rectangular marquee tool.

why do people always do EXACTLY what the tut tells them anyway. just seeing how these worked i could think of at least another 5 things i could do with it. experiment, people

Eh, I just wanted to fallow it and learn a bit, that wasn't really a sig to experiment with.

True, but I didn't do every single thing the same way the tut did it. I had to do something else for gradients instead of the gradient map tool because PS 5.0 doesn't have that tool. I agree, experiment is our friend. :]

same here, but everything is a sig to experiment with. start making the same sigs over and over and then creativity = zero

That's not experimenting.
That's doing the same thing in a different way.

example: I have a red square.
A tutorial says to select the red square with my rectangular marquee tool and then use my eraser and drag wildly until everything I selected is gone.
If I click 'Delete' instead, then I'm just doing it differently, not experimenting.

I actually kinda like this one.

No, what I mean is I was experimenting by looking for a way to imitate the gradient map effect. Besides, it doesn't come out looking exactly the same as a gradient map would look, but it does come close. By doing this experimenting, I learned more ways to use gradients in PS 5.0, not just a way to imitate gradient maps.

BTW, I was wondering if i could post this on another forum all credit of course would be given to you.

I suppose I could have done my own render and every thing, but I this was my first tutorial I followed so I wanted to try and make it as perfect as I could.
