I cant make a new layer. It won't let me drag and drop am I doing somthing wrong?

If you look in your tools window, above where you see the layers listed, you'll see a bar you can drag to change the 'opacity', meaning how see-thru it is.

yeah um....im confused on how to add a pic....im makin me a Din clan sig and banner.

Cremia, if that's your first try, nice. Needs a border though.

Select > All > Edit > Stroke selection

1) Upload your sig on photobucket.com, imageshack.us, etc.
2) Copy the link beside 'direct link'
3) Start a new post
4) Paste your link. Put [IMG] in front of it, and [/IMG] behind it.

this is what i made

I tried to save my project and got this message:

Pango-WARNING (recursed) **: Couldn't load font "MS Sans Serif 8" falling back to "Sans 8" aborting...

then it dies without saving. I recently pasted a new font into the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder, could that have done something?

I had to copy and paste it into Paint to save it...anyway, this is what I managed to get with your tutorial.

The text in the upper corner there is a little to close to the border. Also: Where's the border?

(Select>All, Edit>Stroke Selection) Set your foreground to black and set it to 1 or 2.

To reiterate - GIMP went and died when I tried to save it, so when I had to stop, I had to save it in paint as a non-GIMP file. So I can't modify it anymore. I was up to the border bit when I was told to shut the computer down, so I wasn't able to put one in at the time, unfortunately.

Your tutorial helped me so much! I'm now so much better at sig making...

Wicked cool. I was looking for a gimp tut.

Being a linux user, the best paint package i found is the gimp. I have completly dumped windows xp and moving to linux meant giving up things like psp and such. A gimp tut is just what i need as the sigs i entered in a few comps didn't get many votes. The help will be great.

Ill check out the tut in more detail when i have more time and ill post back here to let you know how it goes. *fingers crossed*

I'm new at gimp, so I need some help... it only shows one background at a time with the completed image.... either my first, or second, or third, etc. Anyone know how to fix this?

I would try clicking the 'New Layer' button, if that's what you're implying. The layers all start out blank, so it's up to you to fill them with whatever it is you want to.

No, I mean I have multiple layers, with different patterns, but only the one on top shows (the newest layer).

There should be a symbol similar to an eye next to the layer. Click it. That should hide hat particular layer until you want to use it.
