Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

Welcome to the SWSC! Please follow all the rules below.

- Please post any individual works with a maximum size of 600x600 pixels here (this includes signatures).

- Each work should be commented on twice before a new work is posted, this way each work can get it's fair share of criticism.

- Criticism more then praise is encouraged. Praise is okay, but if you have some constructive advice to give be sure to give that as well.

- Please refrain from posting one of your works again until two more works have been posted and commented on. As in: You, Them, Them, You.

- You may post only ONE work at a time. Posts containing more then one will be deleted.
EXCEPTION: If you have multiple versions of a work and wish to post them all, that's fine, just do it all in one post. (:

ZU Forum and GD rules apply. You know where to find the forum rules, here's the GD ones.

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

Here's a quick small work I just did of one of my favorite female models, Marta Aragonés.
Any criticism would be much appreciated. :3

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

Alright.

The "painting" effect is really interesting. I'm a fan of it. I like the colors a lot, too, though everything's a tad over bright. And the brushes behind her hair? They seem a bit messy and out of place. I'd either scrap them or spread them out into a sort of "wall." If that makes sense. The text placement is... okay, but the font itself is pretty odd. A) I couldn't tell what it said? The H's look like M's in that font, etc. B) It just doesn't seem to fit thematically. Maybe pick something more organic.

The idea was to make her hair look a bit messy with the brushes.
And with the font, I wasn't sure how to do it. Most of my organic fonts are very thin and light. I am always iffy about thin fonts so I just stuck with something thick. Thanks for the criticism! I'll take all of it into account when I work on something else. <3

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

I think I agree with Holden about the font.
It's like a nature-y scene, and you put like technical-themed typeface in there. It doesn't even need to be something that's specifically nature-y, in my opinion. Just something not bitmap based

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

Um ok, so I guess it's ok for me to post one now?

Here we go! This signature was made from a random render I got off another forum for practice. It's pretty different from all my other work, so I'm not really sure how I feel about it! Let me know what you think!

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

I like them both, but I think I like the second one better.

The only difference I see is the border, but somehow because of the way you did the border it helps my eyes see more definition in the colors and lines of the background.

The border itself isn't that awesome, but somehow it's just better looking to me

The border wasn't the only difference I added a darker layer and overlay-ed it or used hard light or something to make the darker colors show up better, the border was just different, but it had no effect on how the signature looked!

Yeah my usual sigs I make much darker and use bright/glowing effects, these I was trying to venture out of my comfort zone and go a different direction so I'm glad you like them!

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

I like your choice of colors as they blend well with the render. Your positioning with the render and other effects isn't perfect or near perfect and it leaves your eyes to wander all over the place to see all that is going on.

It's great to start with one focal point and draw most of the viewer's attention to that point, rather than having things all over the place.
Like so:

All in all it's very good. There are a lot of things you can improve on, though. Try to be a little more "simplistic", and not go overboard with the effects and brushes.

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

She's got the rule of thirds nailed down, Ethan. I think it's just that the render blends so much with the BG that it's hard for your eyes not to wander.

I like that style, so I think it's fine. :3 But others don't, so.

But either way I have a piece. :3

Ooh! I really like this signature :>, but the font placement is kinda bothersome, maybe a tad more to the left? (But that's just me xD)

I like it! The colors and lighting look great, I have to agree with Strawberry though, the text seems a bit off...

I think that's the really cool thing about GFX and art in general, you get to make it however you like it!

And besides, we all know I'm in no position to give you advice!

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

I, too, think the text looks a bit odd. The rest is beautiful but I think that either the font isn't the right color or something. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the signature.

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

It looks pretty cool but the text looks a little pixelated. Try fixing it and it should look pretty awesome ;3

Re: Small Work Showcase [Vol. I]

Okay guys lol so something's wrong with the text--I understand.

I'd fix it for you just to let you guys see it but it's on a different computer that I don't currently have access to and I still think it looks fine. So no. xD

Alright so someone else needs to post something now lol.
Xanox you're back you should post something.
