I LOVE the frog sig. That is awesome. The splatter effects are very cool.
Very good job. ^_^

So, any more sigs to post or should I get the next assignment rolling?

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

I'll leave the breathe one, even though it wasn't very nice :< I'm doing the second one right now though, which will hopefully turn out better.

I'll edit it in here if you don't post before I'm done (:

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

My result with the Mariah tutorial:

I guess the main thing I got out of this one was tricks for creating a bit more depth.

I'm ready to move on when everyone else is.

That worked out very lovely! I love the flower effects on the bottom. The only thing I'd suggest is move the light more behind Midna. The light is acting as a second focal point. Get it closer to Midna (who should be the main and only focal) and I'd call it good.

I'll get another assignment up this week. I have a lot to do today and tomorrow, so bare with me. -_-

Feel free to create sigs however and I'll critique them.

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

I thought about that...my original thought was that I wanted the rays render to land on her cheek, and thought it wouldn't work if I moved her toward the light. But you got me to try it and I like how it looks pretty well after all. Thanks!

The only thing is I was left with more open space after I moved her, so I put in a clipping mask...is it distracting and need to be toned down more, or does it look good?

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

Sorry, my computer needs to be fixed (this constant lag is unreal), and I've been getting the BSOD recently, so It's taken longer than I though.

*sigh*, I'll surprise you one of these times :>

How the heck do you keep it so clean and sharp.

EDIT: The results from this second assignment keep turning out so bad because I haven't allowed myself to add anything or take anything out that I normally would. I guess following other people's works so closely doesn't work out for me, if I'm allowed no freedom.

EDIT2: LOL mine's too bad for a response. Ja-Kun used clipping masks and whatever, wasn't the whole point of assignment 2 to stick to the tuts?

That made it so much better!! Can you see the difference? There is a big one. Very nice!!!

Well, I just finished a big project that was due today, so I'll have more free time to help with this thread.

GKANG--I don't think Sugar intentionally overlooked your post; you posted right before she did and she may have been multitasking and missed it. I'm sure she'll respond.

I followed the tutorial to the letter and posted the result. After I got feedback on that, as far as I'm concerned, it's just about making the sig better. I'm not "cheating" or anything...

Oh no no, I'm not saying that at all. Your sigs look great :> You're probably right though, I should be allowed to add some of my own techniques after SP responds.

First thing that comes to mind is the text. I'd take it out completely. The flowers on the left side are kind of distracting. They don't fit in well. If they were a splatter or something grungy it would match the sig better.

I really like it.

I followed the tut exactly as it said. I did blur the edges a bit though.

EDIT: NEW ASSIGNMENT POSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully when my PC gets back, I'll still have Photoshop and my .psd's. This assignment is my chance to start liking c4d's :>

Very good. Too many people don't like C4D's, but they are a very valuable resource to learn.

Sorry I haven't been doing the assignments. I've been kinda busy. I'll post my results with assignments 2 and 3 soon. It sounds like a good chance for me to make some new C4Ds.

You make C4D's?

EDIT: Did you almost just copy what I said? Haha.

The "good chance" part seems that way.

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

I have a dumb question: could you define c4d? Does it necessarily mean it was made in Cinema 4D or is it used broadly for "pretty 3d render things" or does it mean something else?

Here's mine:

4 images went into it:

This, this, this, and this last one which I made myself in Photoshop a while back.

What I like best about abstract sigs is that I can make them long and narrow, which is the way I prefer them--but when I use characters and photo stocks, I almost always have a more boxish sig because I don't want to crop/downscale too much or ruin the proportions.

Oh, I should say too, I played with hue/color balance but didn't use any effects, brushes, eraser, clipping etc. Just the layers are stacked with darken/screen/overlay.

I think its the program you use to make it, and then everyone called anything abstract like it a C4D after that. haha

Oooh VERY nice. I really like this one. The C4D's are awesome. And you are smart for using multiple C4Ds to create this. Good lesson learned, never be afraid to use a bunch.

There are multiple C4Ds I see, but they don't all match the same texture, ya know? Some are grungy, some are soft and smooth, others metallic. Maybe try to pick a bunch that match the same texture. Make sense?

Yah, that's another thing I forgot to mention. This can be as long as you want or as tall as you want. Ignore the ZU rules for a while, obviously you won't be able to use it in your sig, but for learning purposes don't be afraid to get wide or tall.

Oh that's fine. It's a challenge to avoid the things we always use and still have a good outcome. So yah, good job!

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

Thanks!

Yeah, I kept adding c4ds until it seemed like they were cancelling each other out and making it look worse or too crowded.

I'll try to make another one with a lot of similar textures.

Yah, and doing that to take up space is fine, but again, you want everything to match somewhat. It's ok to use 2 textures, but not 3 or 4.

Re: sugarpoultry's homeroom

Yeah, I changed my title from Deku Scrub to that once I had enough posts for a custom one.

I did another abstract one. Had a hard time finding renders with similar textures that would fill the space in a way I liked...one idea that I just came up with would be to cut up a large render and use different pieces of it together--it would certainly match if I'm only using different parts of one render.

One
Two
Three

I think it almost looks better without the first one, even though that leaves some open space.
