Fur Tutorial

If anyone wants to learn how to draw a wolf with good details and all that, this 3 step tutorial might help anyone.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Also, for those wanting to find an easier route, here is a simple one that can also help.

Re: Process of a Wolf

Don't forget burning and dodging can create awesome results when doing "scenes" that involve lightning to some degree.
Good tutorial.

In the big 3 step one I mention burn and dodge. But the simple one, yes, it is good. Thanks.

Re: Process of a Wolf

This is a very good tutorial, sugarpoultry, but it's not going to be of much use to a lot of people here. Most of us here just make sigs or other graphical images of the like. Also, if I were to draw an animal using PS or something, it'd be a horse, not a wolf.

This would probably be better off in the art section. For awhile I've been thinking about creating my own tutorial for that area on drawing horses.

Re: Process of a Wolf

The principles of this tut can be used to draw any animal: cat, wolf, tiger, etc. Any animal with fur.

This is a graphics tutorial section is it not? This is using graphics, I'd say this location is appropriate.

This tutorial is very good for CG art, Ranil.
I seldom use live subjects for my CG large pieces, but I think this could come in useful.

Actually, no. I don't see how it can help me draw bears or giraffes or horses or other furry animals if I wanted. Fur looks different on every one of them. They have shorter fur, or longer fur, or thicker fur, or thinner fur, fur markings, and the like.

And no again, this is not graphics. Graphics use graphical images like renders and photos. You're drawing on the computer, not using graphics. There's a difference.

Fratey: Yes, CG art. Not graphical images like photos and sigs. Liah and me are the only ones who do CG art here and neither of us draw wolves, it appears.

So, this tut is useless to me. Sorry, sugar. :/

Re: Process of a Wolf

Actually, I find this tutorial very helpful Ranny. Not all of graphic art is 'renders and stocks.' Digital Painting is included, and can be used for a variety of purposes.

For example, the background of my sig was digitally painted. Though only a small area, it is still present.

Lastly, brush sizes can differ to get the effect you want for different animals. The technique used however remains similar if not the same, in most animals.

Did she ever say it was made for you? =/
There's really no point in saying that it has no use to you if it wasn't created specifically to help you, or those who do the kinds of art that you do. You do different art than this, and therefore logic dictates that it's not going to be very halpful anyway. Basically, it goes without saying.

I didn't mean it that way. I was trying to imply that I wish I could use it, but can't. Not that it was made for me. :/

Yes, I read that. You didn't have to repeat it. :/

Point is, if it's obvious it's not going to help, then there's really no need to say so.

Awesome tut. I've been following one that my friend made a while back, so I'm "getting the hang of it" so to speak. So I'll take a shot at tackling this one when I've got the chance.

Dave, I think this requires a tablet. I remember something about that when I read through the tut. I guess it's useful to those who DO have tablets though. :]

I use the pad on the laptop to do it. Not quite the same, but I've been using GIMP brushes a lot lately, so I'm *better* at it then before. Even if it isn't for GIMP, I can still manage to use the tut as a general guide.

Ah yus, that's also true.

You're not going to have the laptop anymore, though, remember? You're only having your desktop computer.

You obviously have zero idea what you are talking about, so don't even bother proving me wrong unless you wish to amuse me and everyone reading this even more. Computer Graphics. CG. If I'm using a tablet drawing this, or mouse, it's still Computer Graphics. Seriously, even an overweight karate kid can figure that out.

Hard to believe, but most computers come equipped with a mouse now...

It shows what the difference is without a pad, but you can still do it. And this isn't necessarily for PS, all the things can be applied in GIMP as well.

All I can say is wow..... Ranil, you haven't changed a bit.

Please leave my thread if you don't like my tutorial. Go make your own, for your own purpose, if you think you can do better.

Re: Process of a Wolf

I always thought CG stood for computer generated. :/

Gee, sorry. And sugar, I really don't care. Also, I made a mistake here. I thought your tut wouldn't be of much use to anyone here, but I was wrong.

EDIT: Also, I never said I did not like your tutorial and I never said nor implied that I could do better. I cannot do better at wolves because I do not draw them. I really like your tutorial, it's just not of any use to me. :/
